The first thing to do is to make a doctor's appointment. It's important to rule out sinister causes. Having said that, you will probably find that there is no identifiable cause. It should go in time. Make sure you are drinking enough fluids and avoid alcohol for the time being. Make time to go for walks, preferably with a walkman or ipod to take your mind off it. And try to keep stress to a minimum. The best painkiller is one that includes both codeine and paracetamol. They're the active ingredients in migraine remedies. Sometimes a topical stick such as 4-head (UK brand - the US probably calls it something different) is effective and can be useful if you don't want to take too much medication.

This isn't a very 'relaxing' choice I go for but when I get headaches, I drink a lot of water and go lay down in a fresh dark room! By fresh, I mean cool :)

My mum suffers from headaches that can last weeks.
If your taking pain killers it may be those that are causing the headache, a kind of rebound effect. check which ones you are taking incase they are addictive in any way (if they are ease of them)
alot of the time headaches like this seem to be caused by stress (seems the case with my mum)
the best thing I can suggest is using a heat pack to help relax the muscles, try this with some anti-inflamitories. hopefully that will help to ease the muscles, I'd suggest using the pack on your shoulders and neck.
you can also try a massage or electro therapy (like the little tens machines) the electric pulse will help to quickly contract your muscles on and off to encourage them to stretch and relax.
I hope this helps. if it persists then you should go and see a doctor (or maybe an osteopath or something)

Because of how long you have had this headache I would recommend seeing your dr for further evaluation. In the mean time ask them if it's ok to try something like Tylenol to see if it helps relieve some of the pain with this headache.

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

See your doctor to rule out anything nasty. He may supply a better pain killer. Get your eyes tested, eyestrain can cause headache as can arthritis of the neck and tension.

Go to a doctor, it may be more than just a headache. Also if it's just a headache, some caffine a cold cloth on your forhead and dark quiet room will at least help....also don't think about it, thinking about it intesifies your problems.

They showed how to do this in a movie called Saw 3. The doctor used a power drill and a saw to relieve pressure in Jigsaw's brain.
