Your question has several unstated premises without supporting evidence. First of all, what do you mean by "Christianity-bashing bandwagon"?
I don't think Christians are particularly hated, especially in this country. However, I DO think many people are weary of the sort of intolerance propagated by organized religions - specifically, opposition to stem cell research and efforts to exclude gays and lesbians from enjoying the same rights and social institutions that heterosexuals enjoy.
But don't take it from me - look around. Christians are (sadly, in my opinion) dominant in this country. I don't think that's much better than many of the world's theocracies.
Religion (not necessarily the religious) IS detestable to many people for several perfectly logical reasons - religions have an ugly history of racism, classism, sexism and assorted attrocities.

You got a point...
I have come to think of it like this.
When you first learn something that is exciting or world turning you have to tell everyone.
So when the newly learned person entertains himself witht the extremely interesting narratives of The Knights Templar or Osiris or Zoroastrianism or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, They have to share thier knowledge.
Now the thing is.. when you first learn this info and tell someone who is very rooted in what they believe and find it very difficult to see from the new point of view... the newly learned person gets put into a strange not so fun situation.
What happens then???

Well duh! have you not read history... or the Bible? it is stated clear that since many, many years ago Religious people and Atheists are fighting. It did not happen since tomorrow? or today... it is something normal... and abnormal at the same time.
edit: though we should not attack them back, and forgive them... maybe... this is what makes us religious people and them atheists (they are angry kids -- some of them not all!) we are knowledgeable people (religious people - some of us not all... some are stupid as in any group we find many types of people)... at least I am... I take both sides Religion and Atheism = science way... Cause: "Science without Religion is boring"
BTW: atheism and religion are groups I always say this... it begins to sound boring too... but it is the truth, as in any group we find stupid, arrogant, smart, beautiful, ugly, intelligent, creative, etc... types of people... so don`t generalise

Is christianity jumping on the "i'm a victim" bandwagon? Is christianity the new poor, discriminated against, innocent demographic? People hate religious people because religious people are assholes. Enjoy, report-fairies.

I don't hate religious people. Many are kind and peaceful and loving. Many Christians are too ... but then there are the kind who put a big target on themselves every time they open their mouth. Hard not to shoot at a target when it's waved in front of your face.

Christians would know best.
New christian slogan:
Converting and burning for over 2,000 Years.
Like McDonalds: Over 200 million converted.
Crusade? Yeah we got that.

Excuse me, "everyone"? The only religion I bash is the bloodthirsty one that calls upon the "faithful" to kill the "infidels." The religions which preach kindness, mercy, compassion, and love are OK with me.

Because a) there is just so much to bash and b) when your silly superstitions affect the lives of others and their pain and sufffering (see stem cell research, abortion, homosexuality, medical and scientific advences, etc, etc) it needs to be bashed.

because you guys love to shove your religion down other peoples throats!! you dont even have proof for your religion (bible not proof so dont bother saying it is! if that's proof so is the quran, greek myth, egyption myth, etc) and your calling others "lost"....do you know how offensive that is? apparently not! if i want to go to check out your religion ill go to you! stop coming to me! im NOT INTERESTED AT ALL!
and religious people hate other people too! so dont act like your perfect, nonjudgmental, and righteous! you dont think calling atheists and other religions evil isn't discrimination? or how about gays and lesbians going to hell? what do you have to say about that?
