Hi, my lab is going to be 3 next week, and I want to make a puppy birthday cake for her. I used to be able to go to a fru-fru place and get special cookies, but we've moved since her last birthday and there aren't and doggie boutiques around here. YES! My dog is spoiled. LOL. Does anyone have a recipe for one? It doesn't need to be human friendly, just good tasting to my pup. Then again, it can be family friendly too. LOL

Buy a cookbook for dogs - yes - they actually have them now! I picked up one at Christmas that has lots of cookies, snacks and treats as well as a couple cookie cutters. This one's pretty short so I'll type it up for you.

MEATY BIRTHDAY MINI CUPCAKES

1 lb ground beef
1 stalk of celery, finely chopped
1 cup quick oats or oat flour
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sacue
2 eggs, beaten
Soft cream cheese for frosting (optional)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix the dry ingredients and ground beef together in a large bowl. In a small bowl blend the tomato paste and water. Add to the dry ingredients along with the Worcestshire sauce, celery and beaten eggs.

Prepare a mini-muffin tin by greasing lightly or filling with paper liners. Spoon mix into the cups. Bake for 15 minutes or until cooked through.

If you don't have a mini-muffin tin use a regular-sized muffin tin. Bake at the same temp for a slightly longer period of time until muffins are baked through (start checking at 20 minutes)

Once cooled frost with cream cheese, if desired

Here's another one that's perfect for summer:

FROZEN PUPSICLES

32 oz low-fat or non-fat yogurt
2 mashed bananas
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
2 tablespoons honey

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Blend well. Fill small paper cups (like 3oz bathroom-size Dixie cups) with the mixture. Freeze for at least two hours. To serve - let thaw slightly then pop Pupsicle out of the cup into a bowl by pressing the bottom of the cup. Makes approximately 10 Pupsicles.

Happy Birthday - so sweet you're doing this for your dog! :)

Unlike a child, a dog isn't expecting a spongy sweet thing with icing. Dogs like attention, but are otherwise unaware of birthday, cake, and birthday cake. Put a candle in dog food, then serve cake to the humans.

My aunt had a birthday party for her dog one time and invited all the neighborhood dogs over...it was a mess lol. But she bought some Frosty Paws for all the dogs to eat. Frosty Paws is Ice cream for dogs it comes in a 4 pack of little ice cream cups, they have peanut butter and vanilla. All of the dogs loved it. You can buy it in the ice cream isle at your local grocery store.
Sorry couldn't be any help with the dog b-day cake but hey you can get her some doggy ice cream to go with her doggy cake.

Both! Just don't use Chocolate. Try to use a cake batter that uses butter, not eggs

Chocolate and Eggs can make them very sick. So can Onions and very salty foods.

Without a doubt you are moving in the right direction. I would reccomend the finest Dark Choclate cake at any price. Just don't give any to the dog.

Great ideal! Use your imagination , you know what dogs like. and don't forget vanilla ice cream afterwards to top it off. NEVER!!!!! give a dog chocolate! It can kill them! A steak cake would be great. :-)

here are my dog's favorite cakes.
Bacon Chicken Layer Cake

This recipe makes a real layer cake! Chicken, bacon and yogurt provide aromas that drive dogs crazy for this cake.

3 cups flour
1 T. baking powder
1/2 cup margarine, softened
6 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup corn oil
2 jars strained chicken baby food
2 cups finely shredded carrots
plain or vanilla yogurt
2 or 3 strips of bacon, fried crisp, then crumbled, or use bacon-flavored jerky strips, cut into bits.
Generously grease and flour two 8" round cake pans; set aside. Combine flour and baking powder; set aside. In a mixing bowl, beat softened margerine until smooth. Add eggs and corn oil; mix well. Add strained chiicken, and shredded carrots and mix until smooth. Add flour mixture and mix thoroughly. Pour batter into the 2 prepared 8" cake pans. Bake at 325° for 60 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes before removing from pans. Cool completely on wire racks.

Place one layer on a serving plate and spread yogurt over top. Place second layer on top, then spread yogurt on top and sides of entire cake. Sprinkle crumbled bacon or bits of jerky strips over top. Use "Pupperoni" sticks for candles.

Jerky Cake

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup soft butter
1/2 cup corn oil
1 jar strained beef baby food
4 eggs
2-3 strips of beef jerky

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour an 8x5x3 inch loaf pan. Cream butter until smooth. Add corn oil, baby food, and eggs. Mix until smooth.

Mix dry ingredients into beef mixture until batter is smooth. Crumble beef jerky and fold into batter. Pour batter into loaf pan. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes. Cool on wire rack 15 minutes. Frost with plain yogurt, cream cheese or cottage cheese. Crumble another strip of beef jerky and sprinkle on top of icing. Store in refrigerator.
