You forgot racist, homophobic and promoters of slavery. As mentioned these were different times so as a species it is time to grow up and put away 2000 year old views of "morality".
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things Chapter 13, verse 11
Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
Chapter 14, verse 20
Two quotes from the bible that describe exactly how I feel about religion. As a species we have explored and expanded our understanding of everything and for many instead of realizing the the universe is grander and more fantastic than what the bible says, they want to believe in their little childish god.

Actually, even though men are the main focus of the Bible, there were a LOT of women who played a very important part. Phoebe was a deaconess (New Testament), Deborah was a prophet (Old Testament), Esther and Ruth (also Old Testament) were both queens...there are MANY important women in the Bible.
It was just the time they lived in. Men were the "hunters," and women were the gatherers. Wars were fought by men. Men were, and still are, where physical strength resides. That isn't sexism. It's just the truth.

In the west the we see a clear cut shift from Matriarchy to Patriarchy when Zeus rebels and takes over the god thing. From that time on the new religions were male oriented as women were property at best. The Jewish/Christian/Muslim god is par excellence male oriented. God for all his omniscience and powers created a "lonely man"!?!! Eve is part of Adam, not an independent being from a different patch of dirt.

Hello and allow me to explain in the area of the world that Jesus was born too, women was considered property, without any rights at all if for example God had used a woman as a disciple God would have ended His mission before it ever got started, now God has to work with people. if you will read and keep "in context' the words in Acts 10 Jesus dealt with the subject of prodigious a lot in that chapter as Jesus disciples was Jewish but the Word was going to the rest of the world but His disciples was prodigious, and NO God knows everything and He was NOT as a after thought created Eve, the reason He waited was so ADAM could see He was lonely BEFORE He gave the Woman to Him, God in Acts 21:9 Philip had four daughters that prophesied so God does not have a problem in using women and does where permitted by mankind, God bless. www.amazingfacts.org

I love this question and I love discussing it!
If God was sexist, in the Bible it would say that Eve was created from Adam's feet, which would symbolize that Eve is Adam's slave. Feet symbolize work, therefore Eve is Adam's feet. However, thats not the case...
If God believed women are stronger and better than man, he would have created Eve out of Adam's head. This one is pretty self explanatory (the brain). However, thats not the case...
God created Eve out of Adam's waist, which not only symbolizes that men and women are meant to be one, but also symbolizes that they are equal. Without one the other is useless. Without a female a male has no waist therefore a non-connected upper and lower body, without a male there is no female.
God isn't sexist. He clearly created man and woman to be equal. Woman being subordinate to man was an early tradition that stuck until just recently and actually still exists in some places around the globe.

No it is not sexist- if you actually READ the word- you will see that the man has much more responsibility- it comes with leadership. Jesus is the head of man and that comes with a ton more responsibility.
I know some men beat on their chest because the word says they should be the leader of their household, but at the same time many forget the responsibility that comes with that.

Can the pot challenge the Potter why He made it like He did? Does a sovereign God have to justify His decisions and actions to the human race (male or female) who should be grateful for their mere existence? Spiritually we are all equal before God, yes, but not physically. Here man carries a much heavier burden = greater reponsibility for which he will have to give account to God one day.

no men and women are not supposed to be equal, men are supposed to make the decisions and women are supposed to obey them, a lot of couples have that removed from their wedding vows these days but that is because of our society and women's lib, and it is simply wrong. Men are supposed to love and Cherish their wives and take care of them but women are supposed to trust and obey their husbands. So all this political correctness garbage is destroying the fabric of our nation.

It's just a historical thing, remember the bible was written 2000 years ago. Back then women were considered property. For this and other reasons I don't think the bible should be taken literally today
