actually most of my food doens't splatter like rice or soup

and my mom specifically told me that using the food wrap will prevent the radiation from entering the food and i wont get cancer

and as for why i would be staring at it, well the back of the microwave face isn't against the wall, but in fact face this little hall thing that i walk around the kitchen, so im' just afraid that if i walk behind it while it's on, i might get cancer or something

its only bad to stand right in front of it if is leaking microwaves, and most microwaves will not operate if this is happening. also, i use food wrap to keep things from exploding all over the inside of the oven, especially stuff like spaghetti sauce which is yukky to have to clean up, but make sure it is wrap that is made for the microwave and don't ever use tinfoil...........the back, i'm not sure if it is wrong to stare at it or not, but let me ask you this, why in the world do u want to stare at the back or the front of a microwave, its not a tv you know.............

you put wrap on it to keep it from going all over the microwave and standing by it.. really doesnt make any difference. the "radiation" or microwaves are very low.... that "old tale" is more for ooollllddddddd microwaves... also.. there are new studies out that suggest that eating microwaved foods can lead to cancer and related problems

Use wrap (cling wrap/plastic wrap in AU) unless you want food splattered all inside of it! I have never heard of it to contiminate food. Also, there are certain microwaveable plastic containers that are safe to use with lids om, just be sure to read the instructions!

I don't use food wrap (think you mean what we call cling film) because it has been proven to contaminate foods. Use a plate or something just to stop the splatter of food!Thats whats annoying her - the thought she is going to have to clean it up after you!!!

As to starting at it?? Probably not a good idea but I don't know for sure.

Click on this link to read an article about microwave safety. It is VERY long and VERY comprehensive. Skim through most of it but read carefully the warnings toward the end of the article at the bottom:

No-the oven is shielded and microwaves are non-ionizing radiation-cannot give you cancer. The microwaves from your computer monitor present more hazard than your microwave ove-tell your mom that!
