When you consume more calories than you use, your body stores the extra energy as fat. This is a throwback to the time when regular meals were not guaranteed. Carbohydrates are just one form of energy-protein has the same number of calories per gram, fat has more. The theory is that eating simple carbs-sugars, starchy vegetables and processed grains-will cause you to eat more because they cause your blood sugar to spike, thus causing insulin to spike and then dropping your blood sugar, which makes you hungry. Limiting refined sugar in the diet and eating whole grains is healthier for you anyway, whether the sugar/carb theory is correct or not.

A calorie is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water one degree Celsius, also known as a small calorie. In relationship to food that means, an amount of food having an energy-producing value of one large calorie(1000 small calories). Our bodies process food and break them down into energy. The body requires so much to get thru the day. If you are taking in more calories than you are burning, then the additional calories will be saved by your body for future use. It does this by converting the different types of food into different types of compounds that the body uses. Carbs, essentially break down to form of sugars which the body uses for a source of immediate energy, and based on exactly what the source is, depends on what type of sugar it is. When we don't use all the energy we have eaten, over eating, we store those extra calories in slow burning fat cells. Our finite fat cells grow larger, and we get bigger.

Carbs do not make you fat. Eating to many sugars and fats make you fat. You should only consume about 2000 to 2500 calories a day, depending on your age, sex, and activity level. An olympic level athelete will need to consume much more than a couch potatoe.

Calories are energy, and when you take in more energy than you burn, your body turns it into fat which is stored on your body for later use in case of famine. Carbohydrates are a type of calorie, and they won't make you fat unless you have to many calories. The reason people cut carbs is because when the body runs short on them, it goes into ketosis, which is when it begins burning up fat as a source of fuel (it normally uses carbs first as an energy source).

The average diet consists of 2000 calories a day. When you eat too many calories and don't burn them off, you'll put on extra weight

becoz carbs are suppose to burn in the form of energy. but since one don't exercise to burn it away, it is stored as fat until the body needs energy. so the more u consume n less u exercise, more carbs r stored n more fat builds. :]
