Since you mentioned you are in 12th grade let me tell you that I think you are much too young to make a permanent mark on your body but if you choose to do this then you must know that it WILL indeed effect the way you are looked at in the work place and could possibly prevent you from getting a job at all. Unless you plan on wearing turtleneck shirts and sweaters the rest of your life I suggest a place that will be less visible or easy to cover. I understand that some people feel this form of artwork should be accepted in all parts of our society I think there are some places of business that it's just not appropriate. I have friends that made the choice to have tattoos and now they wish they had been more careful about the choice they made. You need to think about your older years and how you will look with your middle name on the side of your neck. I think most tattoos are beautiful and artistic but I also think many young people need to think about how it will look later and what type of career they will have. I hope you take a little time to think about this decision carefully so that you won't later have to spend money for laser treatments to remove it. Best wishes to you. :)

I love my tattoos but unfortunately we live in a society that still shuns visible ink in the work place. I have one on the back of my neck that can be covered with my hair down. My entire back is done and can not be seen in clothes.
So to answer your questions: It didn't hurt so much on my neck as it did on my lower back because it is less sensitive but it still hurt because its a bunch of needles. The strangest part is that you can feel the vibration up into your facial bones from the tattoo gun. Otherwise no worries about pain. DO NOT GET until after you have established yourself in your job. The government job I have prohibits visible ink and would preclude you from employment. There is still a stigma and it stinks.

Hi, I have a tattoo on the back of my neck and it honestly did not hurt. I thought that it would but nope. The thing is...is that everyone's pain tolerance is different so what may not be painful to one can be to another. Out of twenty tats that I have i've only had 2 that hurt and one was around my lower wrist and the other was one on my ankle on top of the bone. Good Luck to you.............
You can see pics of some of my tats at site below (including neck one) if interested...

The neck, along with the other soft tissue spots, the abdomen and the inner thigh, is the most painful place to have tattooed.
And it might effect your work, cos you'll have to get a job eventually, and some bosses frown on tats, and unless you'll be wearing polonecks every day they'll see it.
