Well, it depends on what kind of whiskey you're drinking. In my opinion, rye whiskey and scotch whiskey are best on the rocks.
For mixing, use bourbon whiskey. My favorite bourbon drink is Jim & Ginger. Get Jim Beam Black Label (actually regular Jim Beam will do, but the Black Label is better) bourbon whiskey and mix 1/3 bourbon, 2/3 ginger ale, on ice with a wedge of lemon.
You can also make a Whiskey Sour, which many people like (but I'm not fond of). There's a variety of ways to make it including mixing with sweet & sour mix, lemon juice and sugar, etc. Check online and you'll find more recipes.

As with most booze you can mix it with what ever you like. There are no "rules" to what you can mix with what. It is a matter of personal taste. Many common drinks were created by mixing drinks that were out of the norm. Take a look at the Yeager Bomb somebody most likely in a bar came up with that off the top of their head and it spread like wild fire.
My biggest question to you is why do you HAVE to find a drink that you like that contains whiskey? If you don't like whiskey find something else to drink.

It's actually pretty good just mixed with a little milk...sounds weird, I know, but it's a trick I learned from an Alec Baldwin movie years ago. Supermarket sour mix is also an easy, nice mixer for whiskey.

If you are talking good straight whiskey then only one ice cube or a tiny splash of water, it will bring out the flavor. If you are talking blended or cheap whiskey, don't buy it.

Since you are drinking whiskey alone, it is your choice to add coke or pepsi or 7 UP or Mountain Dew. If you ask my choice, I add ice and sode with whiskey.

Try this - order a non-alcoholic frozen lemonade and a shot of Jack Daniel's on a side. Once at the table simply pour Jack into your lemonade. Drink using your straw. If it's not delicious and refreshing than I don't know what is!

the best mixer for whiskey is ginger ale! it goes down easier, doesn't leave that funny coke after taste, not too sweet, and ginger ale is good for ur stomache anyway...so it works out well!or u can cut ur coke with a lemon!

Mixing whisky with Coke is an abomination! If your whisky isn't decent enought o drink straight or with water or seltzer, make a whisky sour.
