Why is it so important for people to belong to an organized religion? Who cares as long as you have beliefs and morals?

One does not have to be religious to have morals and be a good person. Anyway, religion was created to control the masses. Look at how well it's working.....

By the way, I'm not religious. Religion means to to listen to others and not yourself.....

It is because our identity is made up of various things - society, religion, family, geography, and so on.

Human beings like to associate themselves with each other and try to find common ground on which they can associate themselves with other people. That's where religion comes into picture. It is something that gives a set of people their identity. People show off their religion to tell the world that they belong to a particular religion and can bond with same type of people.

Why we feel that anyone not belonging to a religion is not religious? The answer lies in our upbringing. We are always taught from our childhood to identify ourselves with people who have same religious practices.

ur not religious if u have high morals. your just a moral person. btw, wat are ur beliefs. that is a highly crucial question becuz after tht comes the question, are u going to be asked about ur deeds or will evreyone go to heaven no matter wat they do or do they just stay in their graves for eternity? all the answers are in a true religion, a true way of life. thts the difference between organized religion and unorganized religion. one is based on either whims or emotions while the other is clearly organized, has a set of laws on how to live, and everything tht is needed in life...

Organized Religions by definition are cults. If you are not part of there group then you are evil and God hates you. Organized Religions are the root of all evil and should be banned. I hope this helps. Best Regards, M.G.S.

I agree. Unfortunately religion is a business in disguise and similar to other businesses. Coke, Pepsi, Dr, Pepper etc, don't like people who don't drink soda-pop.

Because you're not "religious" in the way they are. Most "religious" people can only understand being religious in the ways they are and terms they understand. Most anything that falls outside those parameters is classified as "non-religious". If you're not like they are, you're not "religious.

My bf is kinda the same...he doesn't believe in heaven or hell and he sometimes questions my ideas...it's the one thing about him that really bothers me but i know he has his reasons and he is a good person. a very good and caring person....and i secretly think he believes something but isn't so sure so keeps it to himself....but yes it bothers me because it makes me feel like he needs to believe in something...why is he living...why does he wake everyday?....what keeps him here and helps him move on?....himself...yeah right. i just don't understand how anyone can't believe in something...even if it isn't one religion or God ...but something...how can you look at the stars in the sky and not feel small...not feel like there is something in the world way larger then you?

Church is'nt the answer Jesus is. I've learned more about being a good Christian reading theWord than sitting in church, listening to someones twisted idea of what God wants from us. Church comes across to me as nothing but a social club.

I really really think that it's because they have minds that are preconditioned to accept only one definition of a word. That's what I think it is. They cannot connect the word 'religious' with anything other than a Church, Mosque, or Synagogue in mind. They are brainwashed to put it bluntly.
