Artificial intelligence refers to the intelligence of a computer. A famous test (called the Turing test) is designed to measure the intelligence of a computer. If a computer can carry on a text conversation without anyone ever suspecting it's a computer, it has passed the Turing test. So far, computers don't have that capability yet.

However, according to one computer scientist author, it is inevitable that computers will become as intelligent as, and more intelligent than, humans. At this point, the author (Ray Kurzweil) say that biological and technological intelligence will merge in an event he calls The Singularity.

An algorithm that allows an operation/mechanism to "perform" a "suitable choice" from a given "situation". Base on the current technology, artificial intelligence requires a data base that contains enough variety of conditional choices that allows the operation/mechanism to determine what to react when some given conditions are met. The"cleverness" of the A.I. could be determined by the variety and the capacity of the data base.

So far, 'artificial intelligence' is only an idea ... but people who are 'upgrading' our computer technology are trying to get to a point where a computer will be able to 'think for itself' ... since the computer is not human, it's artificial ... and if it is able to think on it's own (with no data input from humans) it's 'intelligent' ... so that would be A.I. ... a computer with artificial intelligence.

the devise basically learns by experience. for a given situation, it will make many trials to get to the correct answer once it has reached it will store the experience or to say it will store that for the given condition to attain the correct result this is the process. after a given period the machine is rich with experience and is able to solve complex problems. so the machine is constantly growing in intelligence.
