I don't know even if this artist existed at all , i heard this on a moive and i tried to look it up and found nothing ..

Yes, it sounds like you're thinking of Vincent van Gogh, who actually did sell one painting in his life. It's certainly not Rembrandt, who although died impoverished, was very successful during his own lifetime and thereafter. Also, his cause of death is unknown.

Van Gogh's family were influential art dealers, and he was commissioned by his uncle for a series of around 12 works in his later life. At that time, however, he was living with a prostitute and his uncle disapproved and so cancelled the order.

while it probably is van gogh who you are thinking of...you should know that he actually did sell one painting during his lifetime. .and as a side note i would like to add that the notion of the depressed struggling and suicidal artist is something that originated with van gogh, and despite popular belief is not as common as some would believe, nor is it a requirement of artistic genius...van gogh killed himself because of mental illness
