Why arn't women allowed to join the SEALs? I mean if there are women willing to put their life out on the line for their country they should be allowed to do, women should at least be able to try out. Are we even close to being able to join the seals?

it has nothing to do with physical capabilities. cause army researchers came up with a study that concludes that, when a woman is correctly. trained, she can be as tough as any man. the report by the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine at Natick, MA was led by senior analyst Everett Harman. i havent found one shred of evidence saying women cant physically do it. and military and civillian researchers agree. but women do have to work harder.

heres my view on why women shouldnt be seals. and trust me i am all for equality, but that wouldnt be the best thing with the seals. i do know select women could probably pass the test BUT
our structure is different. we can run, jump, shoot, kill, yell like guys etc. we can dish it out, but we cant take it as easy.. and you must do both.. when a girl gets hit, its worse damage due to our bone density. chances of going down are higher with ieds, hand to hand combat blows, etc..
sucks, but thats life. and i dont think we'll see female seals anytime soon.. but there are females doing infantry jobs, w/o the title of being in a combat mos. its semantics. look at the marines, female lioness. they hold check points and search female suspects and detainees.

As a Veteran of war, I think you watch too many movies. WAR is Hell. If a SEAL gets an unexploded RPG round stick in his hip, his comrades may have to strip his bottoms off with his dork hanging out in the battlefield. If a lady can DEAL with her shirt ripped off after a bullet to the chest, FINE. Body parts are often blown apart during war. My father has told me sometimes when guys get shot up, fecal matter may escape though openings. Therefore, even during training, privacy provisions are sometimes NOT an OPTION. This isn't the movies we're talking about.

Do you think America is ready to know that female SEAL trainees have to strip down to their bra and panties and run into freezing cold water at 2A.M. and lock up with a bunch of dudes to keep warm? Do you think that will work? There are a lot of grimey details of war that you are missing that Hollywood does not show. Can females be allowed to "Sh**, shower, and shave/feminine hygene in 5 min RIGHT next to the guys? We don't have time in WAR to wait for that.

If your female buddy has to take a sh** after a 2 day war mission within 4 meters of your position, you CAN'T turn your back, you may even have to talk to him/her while he/she squeezes one out if a firefight is eminent. That is REAL war. If America is ready to know these details of real combat missions, then sure, someone like Rhonda Rousi could fight, carry 400 lb logs and freeze together, just like the men.

No offense to the ladies, but, actual combat reports about the involvement women in the front line combat* have shown that the problem is this:

If the woman gets hit the guys in the section tend to hang back to look after her (its a guy / mother thing that can be explained by Psychology).

* The studies were conducted by the Israeli Army over a period of time from the early 1970's to late 1970's their studies showed its far better to use women to train new recruits, again Psychology, recruit guy see a little girl shoot the weapons, drive, crew the APC's and Tanks, then he feels he has to perform better than her.
Another reason made clear after a Syrian attack on an Israeli Radio / Radar post on the Golan Heights, was that the enemy had no problems in killing, or raping any women who were taken prisoner.

Because it is a direct combat assignment and that is not permitted by Federal law. The same restrictions apply to certain military occupational specialties in the Army and Marine Corps as well.
Don't blame the Navy. Blame the Congress!

I have been in and around the military for a long time now and I can honestly say that women cannot meet the same standards as men on nearly all of the physical demands that combat roles have. I have only heard rumors of women that can max a PT test on the men's scale but I have never seen any female even remotely come close. I know a girl who is a PT "god" on the womens scale but if she transferred her Push-up, sit up, and run scores over the male rating she would have failed!!

I am not disputing the fact that women can be awesome soldiers or sailors or that their contributions to the military are any less than a males but physiology withstanding they must not be allowed into combat arms roles.

When I was in Iraq we had to ship half our females home because of pregnancies and it made it harder on the guys left behind to fill their slot. When you are on a 12 man or smaller team they can't make allowances for a girl who got pregnant or has some female "issue" when they are in the field for 3 months straight.

To support your argument, there probably are several women in the US who could make it into the SEAL program or Delta Force but they are so few and in between that it would be illogical to allow all women to try out when only one or two possess the ability to succeed in that arena. Besides, I have never heard of another country that allows women in true SF units anywhere else in the world either, so this is not just a US military bias against women thing.

Women are not allowed to be in any direct combat roles including Navy SEALS, Special Forces, Army Rangers, Delta Force, Combat Controllers, Para-Rescue, etc, etc.

Women are allowed support roles only.

The main reason the military does not allow women into the seals along with other direct combat positions is because they were able to prove to congress that women, no matter how determined, are not physically able to grow the muscle mass and physical strength that men are. They have proved that men are biological stronger then women, and the only way a woman could become as strong is by hormone substitutes and steroids.

Tradition! The U.S. Military does not have Women in the ranks of their Special Forces/OPS organizations!

Mainly because you have to protect your comrads beside you. And men do not want to put their live in the hands of a women especially when it comes to combat. I am sure there are women out there who can, but if one is wounded could you lift them? There are just some things women were not made to do.

not gonna happen. you do realize a large percentage of men that try fail out of BUD/s. the odds of a woman passing it are quite remote.
