God was everything, and everything was God, so he was inside himself.

First of all, you are confusing the terms "heavens" and "Heaven."

When the Bible refers to God creating the "heavens and the earth," it is referring to the sky, moon, sun, stars, etc. as the "heavens." These are not Heaven.

Now... to understand what Heaven is, and similarly the term Hell, you have to understand that Heaven and Hell are NOT PLACES that were CREATED!! I see your wide-eyed disbelief... but let me explain.

Wherever God is... wherever He exists... wherever His presence is... is called Heaven. It is not a place, rather it is a state of being in the Lord's presence. It might be equated to saying that one is in court when they are in the presence of the judge... even though in that example, court is a place also... but just set that part aside and think of it as saying, "I am in court when I am in the Judge's presence, no matter where that Judge is!"

Now... just as Heaven is the state of being in God's presence, the state of NOT being in God's presence is called Hell. Again, Hell is NOT an actual PLACE, it is a "state of being." So wherever God is NOT, is Hell.

With those concepts under your belt... we go onto the REAL kicker... Since God is eternal, FROM eternity TO eternity, then both Heaven AND Hell have "existed" FROM eternity TO eternity.

Therefore, where "did" God live before he created the HEAVENS and the Earth? He "lived" in Heaven.

A long way to get to the short answer! Have a blessed day!

flores: Good question ! God is of a spiritual composition therefore, He does not require a place to live . When God created the "heavens and the earth", He had His human creation's best interests in mind. In other words, the whole physical universe was made by God for us humans. God is working out a purpose with His human creation and the limited, "physical", material or transitory world exists for this purpose.

I can only say that what the scriptures say on that is that it was without time. There wasn't a time then. So speculation can go on until sun up, we wouldn't be any closer to understanding what that was. After all, we were born in time. And there always has been time while we live.

So I guess that the question might be asked, " What was it like before time began?" And you won't get me to answer that one! lol

Does it matter? Not really.
How did god come to be? He was already there. No one needed to create him, because he was creation. He created himself.
Does god love us all, even those who he has to send to hell, because they rejected him? Of course he does. He just can't help them. If they want to be away from him, he has no choice but to give them what they want; To live away from him. He has no other way to let them live, because we choose our own paths. We can have everlasting life and grieve less painfully, or suffer a untruthful life of pain in hell were we will bleed until we have nothing more to bleed, and boil until we are nothing less then molicules from dust, blown away into the winds of hell, unseeble to the human eye.
It doesn't matter what or how thigns use to be.

well first the book of Genesis contains the foundational truth concerning God, it presents him as the creator, as the king, and as the determined redeemer, Genesis does not tell us where God came from but reveals beyond question that he exists, Genesis does not make a defense for God--it does not reveal his true nature nor declare his methods nor state his ultimate purposes, however, to deny what Genesis presents about God leaves no alternative other than atheism, we do not have to make him important, he is important!
