The best way to convince your Dad to let you get one is to reach the subject completely. Show him your serious about it and are capable of making a mature decision. He will respect you and take you more seriously if you are mature and knowledgeable about this. Believe it or not there is no license or certificate needed to become a piercer. Anyone can do it so you need to be VERY careful about who you go to. A great website is http://www.safepiercing.org It's the only piercing site I trust. They have lots of good information about the risks, a list of your rights as the piercee (both VERY important) ,and a link to find a list of piercers in their association (they have very high standards). After that, talk to people in your area about their experiences and visit different shops. Find a piercer your comfortable with and that answers all of your questions. I pass out when I have blood drawn but my piercer is so great I didn't even flinch when I had my tongue pierced! Basically, go about it safely. There are way too many disease (some fatal) out there to not be careful. Don't let anyone else influence your decision on getting one, it's a personal choice. Besides, people go to a bad piercer they will have a different experience than someone like me, who has never had any problems. Yahoo answers is great to a certain extent, but only you can really decide if it is worth it. That being said, I LOVE MINE!!!

I found out that I cannot be pierced with gold jewelry because it ends up looking like I have an infection. It's just an allergic reaction, but I still would not pierce with it. If you can, get pierced with stainless steel jewelry. Once I realized what the problem was, it cleared up in about a month.

Also, I would not get a nose ring, unless you get a very thin ring. Most piercers will probably not use a small gauge ring to pierce, so stick with the stud if you can.

And of course you should always make sure your piercer is using sterile instruments, that they sterilize the jewelry before they put it in you and that they wear gloves.

Try and get a recommendation from someone you know who's been pierce.

Obviously, it is going to hurt, but that sensation goes away quickly. Be careful with your pierce and make sure to clean it!

do not take the pill That way once you come to a determination to get something else pierced, you have something to conpare the discomfort to whilst asking how plenty the subsequent piercing hurts And piercings do not many times harm, its al on your head i don't have my nostril pierced, yet I have been given my tongue, bellybutton, some on my ears and my ears are gauged to a a million/2 inch (engaged on going larger!) and that i've got not taken a pill for something. Which there is not any decide for, piercings are rapid and basically might desire to be dealt with good So inspect perfect care and sturdy success ( ;

I had mine done with an ear ring gun and the back of the stud was too long and went into the middle bit of my nose. It made me go cross eyed all the time because I could see it and that drove me mad. After 2 days, I tried to get the stud out and couldn't get the back off it so I had to get a pair of pliers and use a pair of tweezers up my nose to hold the back and yank it out. It was awful, really painful and my nose got infected. 15 years later, I've still got a scar where the stud was. Waste of time and money.

When I got mine done the inside of my nose kept bleeding into my sinuses so every time I swallowed that day I tasted blood. Also mine was infected for about 6 months because I got too many things pierced at once and my body couldn't heal fast enough.

there are no cons to me really. Ive had mine for about a year now and really love it. It didnt really hurt, just felt like I popped a pimple. People don't really look at you differently either. Most facial piercings are looked down upon however, the nose is becoming more mainstream. Good Luck and go for it! :-D

I've had mine for a few years now. I've never had any problems. It was a bit sore for the first few days. I only washed it and didn't try to turn it for about 3 days. If you clean it properly and don't play with it, everything should be fine. Just know that it takes about 6 months to fully heal, so whatever stud you originally get, be happy with (you can try changing it at about 3 months, but I wouldn't try any sooner). Good Luck!

If you get your nostril pierced, it needs to be done with a hollow needle. It will actually take a chunk out and create an opening less likely to get infected. It is easy to get your nostril infected. Your septum is less likely to be infected as it is always done with a hollow needle. The smell of the septums healing is not that pleasant though.

Good luck.

mine is pierced, did not have any bad experiences, just make sure you use gold or silver only!! that will keep you from getting infections (gold is better) before having it done, clean it really well inside & out, i used 90% alcohol, when it is done, make sure its kept clean, & keep turning the ring, so it wont stick.
