Where I grew up we were the largest single Christian sect (note: less than half the population was Christian of any stripe), so we were considered mainstream. lol.
These days "cult" is used so often that it seems to have lost most of its meaning.

I have always been a member of the "cult" my ancestors brought their families across the plains into the Salt Lake Valley. Oh yeah and I am a descendant of a polygamy family. I have always known the church was true and i just can't imagine my life without it. It is just so much a part of who I am. I guess that is what being brainwashed from a young age will do to a person. I have yet to figure out the magical powers that my underwear posses though.
Nobody can convince me that my beliefs are wrong. I guess if I get to the other side and find out that they are all wrong. then I am just a better person, but if when I get there and confirm that my teachings are correct, then I will be very well prepared.
Love Yahoo- great answer.

I belong to a non-traditional Christian church. We beleive some things that are different from historical Christian doctrine, but we still believe that without Jesus' atoning sacrifice, nobody would be getting into heaven....
I was born and raised with this belief, and I still feel that it's right, no matter how many people on R&S say I belong to a "cult"....

I believe in Christ. I believe that he is my savior. I believe that he atoned for my sins and the sins of the world and that through him, we can receive everlasting life.
I have prayed to God and received an answer to those prayers that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. God would know that wouldn't he? Through personal revelation and an answer to that prayer, I know the truth of these things. I am a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. And I do not care if mankind calls it a "cult," I know that it is Christ's church.
If you could find out that same revelation, you would understand that too.

I was not a member of any particular church before becoming who I am today, my mother was raised Methodist so when I was an infant she had me sprinkled, my dad was raised Lutheran, but after he was able to make his own decisions he never went back. I experimented with some others, always felt empty then I found my true church and it felt like home. Glad I'm here, wouldn't trade it for all the other churches , br and sis. see you in eternity,

By the way, this is the best "cult" ever!!!!!!!!!! And it is a true one, the one and only true one :] Oh yeah! I think I'm very well "brainwashed" and I love it! ^_^ Someday I will go into the Temple to do the "secret things" that no1 else but the "cult" members can know, wearing my "magical underwear."

My family was catholic, not because they believed in it but because it was politically correct to do so.
My Grandfather became disilluisioned with the whole church because he began to read its church history.
in the BoM secret combinations exist, i have learned by much tribulation that secret combinations. EXist. I honestly believe these secret combinations exist in every religious organization and where there is no religion it exists even in the evils of anarchy.
men in the church can be led by a false spirit just as surely as they can be inspired by the true spirit of revelation.
Even in the mormon church there are the historical facts of the existence of the Danites and the ORDER of NEPHI.
secret combinations, people that must repent.
even among the most righteous, there is sin and transgression.
I hope you can understand that The Powers that be, can also be the powers of Satan.

I was born into the cult, had a father who was TOO interested in me and was his adobpted wife, mom was OK with it because she was too depressed with her wifely duties and my violent brother was too much, then the seminary teacher told me about the journal of discourses teaching on mary and the heavenly father being married in heaven, that was the start of me leaving. The dating seen was sexist, I was taught that it was up to us gals to keep ourselves and the men in-line at all times, we even had one of the osmand wives talk about "the test" she got and I constantly got at the hands of the mormon teens to see if we were worthy, i consisted of seeing how far we would go, I just thought it was to see what they could get away with, that also was another strike against the church, the last blow was never really being excpeted as a human being in my ward. I just couldn't take it anymore, no matter how hard I tried ot be perfect, I was always a black sheep. I left, you an delete this answer if it offends you, as long as you read it, thats all that matters.
