I got a speeding ticket going 99 in a 70 (it was on a highway) and I have to appear before a judge because I'm under 18....does anyone know what could happen? Will I get my license suspended or just have to pay the fine?

I don't believe anyone could give a correct answer. Because of your age, and the speed involved, the Judge will not take to it kindly. If you blew a tire at that speed........well let's just say, I wouldn't want to be the Officer that would have to handle the accident, or notify your parents.

Well, being under 18 doesn't help, especially if your state has a graduated license program. However, in Indiana (at least some areas), you have to meet with a violations judge if you're found going 21 to 30 miles over, and 31 or over is an automatic license suspension. At least this was the case several years ago when one of my brother's friends (who was 20) got his licensed suspended for going 32 over, and that friend's brother had to take traffic school for going 25 over.

It might not hurt to ask about traffic school. Some states allow you to take it online, or by renting a video from Blockbuster. It teaches safe and defensive driving tips.

I cannot answer this without more info. What state do you live in, do you have many other violations, is there a point system in your state and quite a few other circumstances.

You can at the very least look forward to a VERY large fine and a major increase in your insurance if not having it canceled. Your parents will probably have a cow.

Most of all, I hope you will learn from this.

A few days ago in the state I live in, a young man(only a few years older than you) was travelling about the same speed as you lost control of his vehicle on a gentle curve. The vehicle hit the end section of a standard guard rail head on. the vehicle flipped the car skidded on it's top for several hundred feet. The young mans head was ground away completely leaving only his body from his shoulders down. This is a 100% true account of what happened.

PLEASE don't go down the same path. Learn and enjoy the rest of your life and don't bring this kind of sorrow to your parents and friends.

It's going to be up to the judge. You don't say where this happened, but some states will suspend your license and others will let you keep it if you seem to have learned from your experience. You'll almost certainly have to pay a fine.

You may be able to take a defensive driving course and reduce your punishment.

Have you learned anything from this? That's important. If you have you can have a stronger case to present a judge.

Don't speed again.

Normally no, but being under 18 will raise problems for you. There is a good chance you'll be suspended.

More than likely, you will have to both pay a fine and have your license suspended.

I live in Indiana also. If you are in Allen County or Marion County, they are the toughest on teenage drivers driving that recklessly.

yeah you were going 29 over.. it will definitely get suspended.. they usually suspend it over 15mph on the highway. I know where i live the fine was $61 plus $1 for every mph over the speed limit. it might be higher where you live.
