why do girls 'play hard to get' and how can you tell?

im not sure if this girl i lik is playing hard to get or if shes just not interested. how will i kno what shes doing? if shes playn hard 2 get its pissin me off cuz i really lik her and im getting tired of tryin 2 figure out what to do and i dont want 2 look lik an idiot askin her out if she dosnt lik me but i dont wanna look lik an as* and just leave her alone after trying to flirt with her especially if she is just playn hard 2 get..it seems lik shes not interested sum and others shes cool

Girls play hard to get in order to guage your interest. If you give up too quickly, then they figure you just wanted an easy score and didn't really want to put in the effort for a real relationship.

Unfortunately it can be very hard to tell when they're playing, or really aren't interested. The cues can be very subtle, and will vary from girl to girl. But my theory was always to assume they're playing hard to get. If they're really not interested, it will become obvious pretty fast. They'll get tired of dealing with you and will be blunt.
