...or send them to special Mormon only schools where they get taught essential facts, like how special underwear can save them?

First off ... the "special underwear" you reference will not save us, nor are we taught such a strange fantasy. As another person mentioned, the underwear is completely a matter of covenant; a commandment in which we are supposed to show our desire to obey the Lord and uphold the covenants we make in the temple. This is very akin to the same covenants/commandments that Hebrews made with God in the Old Testament (such as not shaving the forelocks of the head and circumcision, et cetera).

Also for clarification, children under the age of eight are not able to enter the temple (beyond the lobby) except when going through a "sealing," (basically meaning that the children are "sealed" to their parents for all eternity). Then after becoming of age (turning eight) and being baptized themselves, they are able to enter only to perform "baptisms for the dead." The next "age-milestones" are eighteen for males and twenty-one for females, who enter to receive their endowments (known as special blessings from the Lord) in preparation for their mission. Or, when a couple (man and woman) have decided to be married (wherein young adult "age-restrictions" do not necessarily apply). Though much is learned through the ordinances performed in the temple, and Church leaders do visit there regularly for guidance and inspiration, no regular member technically enters into the temple to take "classes" in the form commonly accepted as "school-like." And the only people that really spend a regular amount of them there are the "temple workers," who are there to attend to visiting members.

Second ... while I imagine that many homeschooling LDS do congregate together and even perhaps organize/share their own "field trips" (such as going to zoos/museums together), I have only personally known one in my lifetime. And that was my mother. My mother did not decide to homeschool until long after I was through most of public schooling, but considering the things that children are encountering in schools today, I think I might do the same with my own children. There are plenty of other ways to "shine their light," and to exercise their free agency and faith, than to send children exclusively to a public school. If public school was the only way to do/experience these things, then we adults would be stuck under a "bushel" and pressure of "conformation" that we would have no control over.

The only thing that remotely might come close to a "Mormon school" are Sunday school classes at Church (which are obviously on Sunday only), and Seminary (scripture study classes for high-school aged children, which are only an hour per school-day, and for as long as a regular school-year in their area). Obviously, we are not the only religion to offer/have these types of classes and/or activities.

In fact Catholic School (and other evangelical religions), to my admittedly limited knowledge, is (are) probably closer to a school "where they get taught essential facts," in the manner that the tone of your question implies, than anything the LDS have permanently or officially setup.

Its not just Mormons but alot of other Christians families to.the reason why most people home school is because they dont want to send their children to the Government owned schools that will teach them what the government wants them to be taught. Because public school is used to indoctrinate falls teachings at a at a young age. Have you ever read the communist goals for taking over America?

I don't think too many Mormons home school their children and I am sure none of them teach how special underwear can save them. That would not be a school subject.

There are no special Mormon only schools. I do know of many Catholic only schools in my area though. I grew up in a very Mormon neighborhood, attended public schools, and I never knew anyone who was home schooled, I'm talking K to high school senior! The "school" that we went to to get that "special underwear" information was called church. We went every Sunday. Who gave you your schooling?

I'm a Mormon, and I think home-schooling is a bad idea. We're meant to be a light to the world... not a candle under a bush, lol. How can I love my friends, and share my beliefs in a meaningful way, if we all believe the same thing?

I think a lot of spiritual growth comes from having one's beliefs challenged. I want my kids to have the opportunity to exercise choice.... without choice, no point really being a Mormon!

By our choices we prove our love for God... Being obedient for lack of any other alternative just makes me sick. If my kids will be "true to the faith" then I want it to be because they chose it, and because they know it's true... not because they wanted to conform (gag).

I'm Australian. I think Americans in general are way too uptight (probably the Puritan influence). IMO, it's the US/Puritan cultural influence on the Utah Mormons that makes them so annoyingly Molly!

No-one's perfect!

special underwear, is a matter of Covenent not of magical powers.
in my lifetime I have only known 2 ffamilies that homeschooled their family and a third family that home school'd only half the family.

Personallly I think that 5 year old home school children can learn calculus and trig. if the parents are able to teach it.

i publicly ridicule and believe that government schools are an abomination.

Some members do homeschool their children, but not anymore than other people. I attend a public school that is 98% Mormon. We do not learn anything different than other public schools, though we do attend seminary as one of our class periods. Seminary is in a different building off of school property though.

Most of them attend regular schools, however outside of Utah you have the option of attending early morning seminary (before school starts) and if your stuck in Utah, then you have the option to attend seminary as one of your regular class periods during school. While there is no law forcing Mormon students to attend seminary, it is usually parent enforced.
