Most of what you're already playing is blues based. Now listen to the blues masters: BB King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc. Learn some of their songs off of the records, copy some riffs till you get the feel for how blues works.

If you are good at playing hard rock and heavy metal then playing blues should be a relatively easy transition for you. There are plenty of free sites on the net to get you started, but your best bet is to actually listen to some blues and just start playing along. I listen to " 1.FM Blues " internet radio from Apple iTunes a lot because I play blues-rock, which might suit you more then "straight blues". I'm a blues-rock guitar player, so that is the station I listen to primarily - it has the stuff I like on it.

All music is blues...all of it... if your already playing rock just listen to blues guys you've heard of, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, if you really wanna find something with a hell of a groove pick up some Junior Kimbrough. All the scales you would use are blues based, and learn the 12-bar structure, and i dont know your're skill level, but playing lead IN KEY will be you;re most useful tool...if you dont already that is.. :)

If you're really good, then you should be able to just listen to some blues music and figure out how to play some of it. That's how my Dad taught himself. He's really good at it now!
