I'm supposed to read 3 books over the summer and write a page of notes on each, including the settings, characters, plot, and opinion/recommendation. I'm supposed to elaborate on each setting, character, plot, ect., but I can't do that unless I make the font size 4!

A lot of the time teachers don't want to grade more than they have to, and it is also better to have straightforward and concise answers. But yes, it gets pretty frustrating. My teachers had word limits for essays all the time, but I eventually got used to it. But it seems like your teacher is making it especially difficult because I'm sure it takes a lot of space to write on all those things for a book.

If you are having that problem, you are probably not stating things as clearly and concisely as you could be doing. That is a very common problem. Reducing your writing to one page is an exercise in critical analysis.
