I was going to ask this today and you beat me to it! Someone often on this board claimed atheism was a religion that takes more faith than believing in God - actually let me just quote it to you:
"1) They act just like any other religion.
2) They have faith that they are right.
3) They are in denial about being religious and zealous about their beliefs. ( they are here EVERY DAY! )
4) They are in denial about being dedicated to their beliefs. (which is holiness)"
I was so disgusted! It is 'religious' somehow to not believe in deities is like saying it is religious to not believe in the Tooth Fairy. To be in denial about anything calls for a semblance of reality that the denied exists. God is man-made concept.

Atheism, as a philosophical view, is the position that either affirms the nonexistence of gods or rejects theism. When defined more broadly, atheism is the absence of belief in deities, alternatively called nontheis Although atheists are commonly assumed to be irreligious, some religions, such as Buddhism, have been characterized as atheistic

You can not prove a negative. Most atheists choose to not believe. Many times given the same information as believers they choose atheism. There is actually a book out called "I don't have enough faith to be en atheist" Tell you what All these people who don't think that it is an act of faith. Go try to disprove Christianity. Don't go to just the atheist sites but to the scholars. See what happens and see if your choice isn'tone of faith.

The examples you give are actually a great example of what successful little SCIENTISTS children are. They touch and try things and remember what happened. This is called Learning.
When I was a child, I was comforted by religious faith because I was afraid of death, and afraid of the dark. As an adult, I no longer need stories that assure me if I'm "good," I won't have to die.

It would be more like having faith that there is no monster in your closet. You can perform all sorts of examinations and find nothing. The absence of any evidence is enough to satisfy reasonable people, that there is nothing in the closet more frightening than out-of-style clothing.

according to the Websters dictionary atheism is defined as
"a disbelief in the existence of deity "
to disbelive something is to have a believe that it dose not exist. Since one cannot prove that something dose not exist that requires a mesure of faith.
To be agnostic is not to have any faith on the subject of the existiance of god.

One has to have faith in the teachers that told them reality is nothing like Genesis. Enough faith to bet their life on it.

Faith is an excuse for laziness and fear. When people want to KNOW things, they investigate and search for facts. When they don't want to know, they employ faith.
Faith = denial.
