I do not think it is wrong. I do personally mostly listen to a contemporary Christian station. When I run I have my Christian music on my mp3 player.
I do not think it is wrong to listen to secular music. I do from time to time. Some secular music is over the top and blatantly anti-Christian. It is that music that I personally refuse to listen too.
You can find all kinds of genres of music in the Christian realm - hard rock, pop, r&b, rap, punk, country. The possibilities have come a long way since I was young.

I do believe that it's wrong for christians to listen to secular music. I have a few reasons why I truely belive this. I am currently reading a book called " A Devine Revelation of the Spirit Realm". The author's name is Mary Baxter. It's a really interesting book. In the book the she tells how God acutually shows her things through her "spiritual eyes". This book shows how satan and his demons go to and fro throughout the earth seeking to deceive God's people. Music is one of many ways. He showed the Mary that even if a person is not possessed the demons still hang around. A rock concert is one of the places that this was shown to her. I remember when I was a little child - and this has stuck with me throughout the years even though I'm not that old. I was at church one night and there was a movie that our paster felt that we should watch. It was about music. There was this one particular song that I really liked, but me being a child never thought about the deeper meaning. To get to the point, when you played the song backwards it had demonic messages to it.
I have another reason that I feel that you should be careful of what you listen to. At the risk of sounding foolish, I had an addiction to music/cds when I was a teen. I used to blow my whole check on cds. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true. I used to pray and ask God to help me, and every time I put my secular cds in the trash only to take my favorite back out and go out and buy more. I didn't realize that it was an addiction until I got saved. I started to listen to christian music. It happened over a period of time, but it did happen that all I listen to now is christian music. God brought this to my attention one day - If it's of God, it won't be and obsession. Therefore, while I still love music, I don't go crazy and spend all of my money on cds.
Oh, and you all should check out that book that I mentioned above. There's a whole series of them. They will change the way you look at everything.

No I don't. I was raised up to feel like it was plus another million things. Now that I'm an adult, I realize that there was so much legalism preached at that time, and, within reason, not much of it made any sense ... and low and behold it turned out to be another man-made rule.
I'm still a Christain today but I see more clearly now. Now, I can go to a bowling alley with all the smoke and liquor, to bowl and have a good time without being condemned to hell!

that would depend on what Christian leader you follow and how fundamentalist your beliefs.
if a person cannot be trusted to listen to secular music, then how can they be trusted to live in the world. if Christians can't listen to secular music, should they then live on a compound to shelter them from the rest of the world, too?

Yes because secular music is deceptive and made to hurt, rather than to help. Lucifier was the musician in heaven, and is in control of the music industry whether one believes it or not.
Watch this 4 part series if you want insight, or if you love the truth.

Only if that music tempts them or entices them into thinking or doing something non Christ-like. I admit I listen to some things I probably shouldn't, but just because a song doesn't talk about Jesus doesn't make it inappropriate.

Definitely not.
Music is music. Lyrics speak of life, whether the dark side of life, or the good side of life. Even the Bible speaks of the dark sides of life. Look at David's Psalms, he laments in many instances.
I cannot stand people who listen to only one genre of music just because they are religious.

Absolutely not. Just because someone is Christian doesn't mean that they have to shut out the rest of the World.
