The mental process that one uses to deduce that if one immerses cloth into water, it will become wet is the same mental process that an educated person uses to deduce that the universe is nothing like the bible states that it is. Why do Christians insist that this is a matter of faith when it is clearly a case of basic knowledge and logic?

Faith is about the unprovable. Water has been proven to be wet. Once something has been proven, faith is no longer necessary. So called "People of Faith", are really people of "fear". That is why they have to fight against all facts, since EVERYTHING contradicts their beliefs.
The scientific community has more faith. It is required in order to do the work of proving theories. Especially with all the persecution that has been done to them in the past by the people of fear!

I'm not sure why you feel the need to undermine someone else's faith. The very reason it's called faith is because a person is believing in something that can't be proved. You don't have to take the Bible literally in order to have faith in God.

Hold on there sister, I think someones head just exploded after reading this. If it all came down to basic knowledge and logic (and everybody had it) then there wouldn't be any argument.

I do not need faith to know water is wet. The evidence for this most polar of molecules is overwhelming.
