Tell my wife that she was right and I was wrong and I will never do it again.

In your case, Uncle Wayne, I'd suggest distracting the other guy by giving him a banana.
In my case, if it's a boring argument (using "argument" in the sense of a discussion of different viewpoints) I usually end it by saying "really........ hmmm."
It it's an interesting argument, I just continue it until it reaches a point where we either agree or agree to disagree.
If you mean an argument like a yelling match, I don't do those. I just give the other guy/gal a banana and walk away. Try it.

End the argument by finishing the argument. An open argument just leads to another argument later on!!!

With my love, I eventually shut up. I swear! She has NEVER started an argument with me. Actually, Wayne, I have only ever argued with myself while she tried to comfort me. God, I love that woman.

As for others, "Toldja so" and *under breath* "Yeah, sure you're right... chucklehead" works! If the argument is about children & violence against them I just get angry now. Stopped copying and pasting my good answers. As for those who oppose gay marriage, well... dang it, they make me angry too.

I suck at ending arguments because the guilt I feel afterward eats me up inside... the hurt too, but I always wind up feeling guilty. My best is a feeble "I'm sorry you're wrong and I'm right." ;)

When the other party is crying and begging for forgiveness. Just kidding ;)
If it's a really hot, explosive argument just do something really goofy, make a crazy face and be silly. It's virtually impossible to not crack up laughing. Then look at the person and say "hey, ya know, you see it your way and I see it mine, can we agree that at least we both have a good point, and leave it at that".

By simply saying ok,bowing and ending the discussion with a period and making sure that there are no hard feelings. If there are no signs of a receptive ear,all I am really doing is trying desperately, to convice another that I really do believe what I believe..Not to be crude, but it is akin to stopping the flow when one has to pee really bad(It just does not come naturally)..similarly,when one is not receiving my heartfelt input(when I am convinced of my position) it goes against my nature to just let the discussion end...I have learned to do so,by overriding my pride, with wisdom...This simple act of letting go,is OFTEN the catylist that brings one around to HEARING , even after the discussion has long ended.

Other times,I simply clock them over the head with a tire iron.

Generally, clearly stating your case and making sure all your points are understood. Then, if the other conversant still does not accept your argument, you realize they just won't get it and move on. In that case, I usually say "okay, we agree to disagree." I'm fine with that, unless the person is continuing to believe something that is definitely false. I don't like people to be misled or deceived. I like to make sure they have the correct info. Still, sometimes I just have to let it lie.

I give the silent treatment until the offending party apologizes. Then I'm happy.

Then again, I am a bit of a butt head.

I will keep arguing until the other person, or persons, finally give in. Sometimes this takes hours. I feel this makes me correct.
