Whick is a better color combination? White, Purple, and Black, or White, Red, and Black?

I think that white, red, and black are a better combination, since it easier to match or coordinate red. Silver or stainless accessories will give it a modern edge.

Purples come in so many shades, it would be difficult to keep the same tone or shade. Some have more red, others more blue hues.

Both colour schemes are good combinations, but the overall effect of both will be dramatic and bold. These colours are equal in intensity and effect, so they will give the space an active vibe as they compete visually. I would suggest with the red, black and white, that you add a golden yellow hue as an added accent colour. This will result in a "Paris Bistro" look. With the white, purple, black, I would add a celery green accent colour to calm the other dramatic colours. Most successfull colour schemes consist of a combination of 3 colours, a deep tone, a mid tone and a lighter tone. In these 2 choices the white is light, the red, black or purple are the deep tones, and the golden yellow or celery green will be the mid range tone. With the 3 different intensities of colour used, you will find your space will be more balanced and not jarring or too dramatic that it could be uncomfortable to sit in. These accent colours could be picked up in cushions, carpets, drapes or accessories, not necessarily in paint.
I hope this helps, and good luck with your project..

They are both great combos.
Consider: what color items do you already have?
More red, or purple?
Add some silver or gold [ pix frames, mirror, lamps bases, etc, ]; a plant or two, some candles - you're all set!

It depends. With red it is more classic, with purple it is funkier.
