I was out driving tonite and the air conditioner just stopped blowing cold. My car is still under warranty but the only problem is their service hours are monday through friday and hours that I am already at work. It happened to soon to make other arrangements. I will drop the car off to Jeep on Monday but in the meantime can i buy a recharge kit and add more freon or r134? (i think thats the numbers) I have someone that will do it for me, he is a mechanic who is a neighbor of mine, but he just told me to get the stuff. I am assuming and as is he that there is a leak since the car is not even a year old yet. Is this something that will work in the meantime?

When dealing with service writers doing warranty work, just play stupid and don't diagnose anything. That's their job. Tell them your a/c doesn't work right and fix it. Don't accept anything except free service and cold air on Monday.

Wait for service. Adding R134 if your system has developed a leak won't get you very far, since the new R134 will leak out as well.

Chrysler/Jeep has a long history of AC evaporator cores fracturing and leaking freon. As well, you could have developed a leak in any part of the system. Have you checked the AC fuse ? The electric clutch on the AC compressor is fused. If that blew, your electric clutch will not engage when the system calls for power.

I assume you have also checked the AC compressor belt to insure that it is tight and functioning.

The 2006 4-door Jeep Liberty is a compact SUV provided in 3 trim levels: game, Renegade, and constrained. as a results of fact the liberty became slated for a clean technology in 2007, not many variations have been made in this variety year. the enormous information became the addition of a turbodiesel engine, a 4-cylinder gasoline-saver that Jeep says supplies the torque of a V8. This pass made Jeep Liberty the only motor vehicle in its classification to grant a diesel engine. It replaced the 4-cylinder gas engine before provided on the liberty and became made available for the 4 wheel force variations of the sport and constrained trims.

I would say check and make sure you haven't broken any belts.. and try watching to see if the compressor comes on when you turn on the A/C. Its got 2 big hoses coming off of it and there are actually 2 pully's, if the motor and clutch are working when the A/C is turned on you will see the other one start spinning with it.. if it doesn't do anything.. you know its not freon.. in the meantime you might have to roll down the window, but I would definitly take it in.. and hopefully your warentee will cover your a/c

its probably not just low on R134... do not put more in... you can damage the compressor.. then it won't be covered under warranty.. its probably something electrical... its better to just wait a few days till they can look at it.. rather than take a chance of messing it up more....

leave it to JEEP to fix it if it is under warranty incase this voids your warranty and costs you big bucks.

if the guzzler is still under a warranty, don't touch anything, as it may void it.
