The owner said she's a German Shepherd. I thought her body is too light for a German Shepherd. She was brought from a farm -- one of the shepherding dogs there. I'm also feeding her thrice a day with good protein and lots of carbs but she just couldn't get any bulkier.

She's around 19" at 10-11 months.

She has to be chained up because we and most of our neighbors don't have fences. Leashing is actually advised for dogs in our place. She's very active and she gets good exercise in the morning and afternoon though.

She is a Shepherd
but she is mixed with a thinner breed like a gray hound or whippet

Her build does look like that of a Belgian Malinois but the color is wrong for that. Definitely a Shepherd mix. There are white shepherds, all white. I agree with a couple others in the Shepherd / Smooth Coat Collie mix. The Collie would explain the slim build and the pattern on her face. Collies come in a rough coat (like Lassie) and smooth coat (short hair).

Either way she is very adorable!!!

i can see husky in it too... if its not german shepherd, it could be a belgian malinois (they are thinner than shepherds, but look the same). But due to the really light color and marking on the nose, it looks similar to a husky. Plus its got the bat ears, but placed more like a shepherd/malinois.

by the way, it is not an austrailian cattle dog, unless there is very little of that in there. They are very square and either red or blue (silvery, not white) in color. They sometimes have tan markings. I have one that's half austrailian cattle dog and I met his mom who was and another dog who was. Collie is a possibility. There are short haired versions of those, and the nose seems quite long.

I agree. i've got owned a number of those breeds myself and that i seek advice from as lots of people who will hear on each and every occasion they prepare an pastime in my canines or i will grant to assist others having particular problems with theirs if i'm able to. I want the breeders could hand out workout standards on the breeds they sell and seek advice from each and absolutely everyone paying for approximately breed particular behaviors and well-being matters so human beings could have some awareness as to why their Rott likes to chase the friends cat and desires to tear off their young ones arm or why their Lab runs off and is going swimming on this is very own or why their Blue Heeler nips on the little ones heels while they run. it style of feels if human beings knew what they have been moving into previously they offered it can be an excellent help. yet anybody needs the money no longer what's ultimate for the animal.

I'm betting German Shepherd and Akita. That's a lovely German Shepherd face with the coloring of an Akita.

Handsome dog!

I hope you aren't leaving her tied up all the time. :-) I'm sure you're not! Leaving them tied out is a really good way to help a dog become aggressive.

She looks to me like German shepard and Australian Shepard. When my sisters Assuie shepard was a pup, she had the same body build. She is a thin dog, but not an unhealthy skinny because her ribs are not showing.

I am concerned about her being chained? Is she chained for the photos, or is she always chained? In Sacramento county, it is illegal to leave a dog chained for longer than 30 minutes because chaining a dog is not humane, especially a large breed. There is no exercise, usually chained dogs are not getting the attention they should receive, and they usually become extremely agressive.

She looks like a Belgian Malinois which is a type of Shepard. And this type of shepard is very lean. Males are 24-26 inches in height and Females are 22-24 inches in height. Weight is 80-100 lbs. I hope this was helpfull.you can look at a Belgian Malinois at AKC.org

That dog is NOT a German Shepherd. You need to take her to a vet and perhaps they can tell you.

First off, do you know how old she is? Do you know how much she weighs? Are her back molars in or not? That will kind of tell you if she's a puppy/adolescent or if she's full grown.

She's not looking like a purebred anything, so the best I can tell you is, find a website that has photos listed of dog types.

Anyone's guess is good...
My guess is, she has very distinctive markings on her face which let me to believe that perhaps there is akita in her background somewhere...
Take a look at these pics for comparison:

As for the other half, it could very well be a german shepherd but its very hard to say...I agree with you that she does seem a bit skinny for a german shepherd. She may have more than one breed in her background.

Either way, you've got yerself a very cute dog!!!

Hmm...she definitely looks like she has some German Shepherd blood. But maybe with a mix of...some kind of hound? I know that there are a lot of hounds that are pretty thin, which might explain why she doesn't gain much weight. She's pretty, though.

She does look like she has some shepherd to her, but doesn't look purebred. She is nice looking, though and judging by her body type, she may be naturally lean. I don't know her age, but sometimes these dogs bulk up as they get older. Is she spayed? That will help. Talk to your vet about adding some calorie rich supplement to her diet. I had a sheltie who couldn't keep weight on and my vet gave me a special oil supplement that really helped a lot. It was called Ef-a-Z, I think.
