How am I gonna get down to 110 lbs. if I'm 5'2" & weigh almost 300 lbs.? I'm 23, going on 24. It seems like it would take forever if the only healthy amount of pounds to lose is 1-2/week. I remember when I was taking Tae Kwon Do classes, I was losing a pound a day. But I heard that if you lose weight so fast, you'd be at risk for gall stones. My friend is very slender & athletic, & she said she's gonna help me eat right & exercise, but she suggests I also get a professional personal trainer & get fitness assessment. She said that she doesn't like seeing me be this big. But my psych medications make me eat a lot, & also I eat a lot of "comfort" foods when depressed & I'm depressed all the time. Also, she said that she's gonna exercise with me to motivate me to stay dedicated & not quit. I know how to eat healthy, but certain healthy foods I can't swallow for some reason-I gag on beets, bananas, yogurt, & tomatoes. & healthy food is very expensive for my amount of income. Any diet ideas?

I think you should seek a Doctor for this, especially that you are taking Meds. Thats really nice that your friend is there to help because you are going to need it. Its really frustrating doing it alone. There are bariatric Doctors that understand how the body functions and why you are gaining weight. they offer solutions for you. and sometimes its best to seek someone who knows what to do.

If you want a really good diet to go with your excercising I would advise Neutra System. Its really all about portions and training your body to eating only what it needs. WIth neutra system you get the food and it really is quite good. You dont only eat the food you get from neutra system you have to prepare other food with it as well, so you really do fill up. If you work out and use this diet I think you will see quite a difference. Remember its all about the cardio and aqua as well, you will lose inches when drinking LOTS of water. Ive tried the Neutra system diet and once you start you start to adapt to it and it becomes a life style. Your body will start to reject any bad/ fatty foods so you wont gain weight.....Good Luck

Well I've had some very good experience myself on the "You on a diet" plan. In a nutshell, it advocates healthy foods and exercise. The plan focuses on fiber, fish, chicken, veggies and fruits. Cutting sugar out, cutting processed foods out, adding only whole grain foods.
I'm like you in that some foods aren't for me - I don't gag, but I'm a very picky eater, but I've been on the plan for almost a month and I've dropped one full pant size already.
Oh and I'm same height, but not as heavy - but I'm older. I learned to stop looking at the scale, and go with how I feel and how my clothes make me look.

I know its hard Hun; if it was easy everybody would be thin. And yes it will take some time but the more weight you shed the better you will feel (physically & mentally) and you will be so proud of yourself. You’re lucky to have a friend who is dedicated to helping you.
First off, if you feel your medication is contributing to your weight gain then you need to talk to you doctor about switching meds. Every person’s body is different so medications always act a little differently with each person (that’s why they have side effect warnings) and if you feel a side effect then you need to talk to your doctor about it and try a different medication; plus if you’re still depressed then obviously the medication isn’t helping. Have you tried talking to a counselor? Maybe that will help you with your depression; medication can only help you so much but you need to help yourself as well. Trying talking to someone or writing things down to get them out of your system and try to get more self confidence; just because your over weight doesn’t mean you have nothing to be confident about. Try reminding yourself of your good qualities and try not to focus solely on your insecurities. Also you need to find a different way to deal with stress than comfort eating. Instead of eating try talking to one of your friends or family members or going for a walk; exercise helps with stress and depression because it releases endorphins.
Your right about loosing weight too quickly, there are many health risks to loosing weight too fast and one of them is that you put that weight back on just as fast and more; which is extremely hard on your body. The point of loosing weight is not just to look better but to be healthier by eating better and being more active.
A fitness assessment by your doctor would be a good idea because he can also give you tips or recommend you to a nutritionist if you need to talk to one. As for a personal trainer that is up to you, it wouldn’t hurt but it can be pricey.
As for eating foods you don’t like, don’t eat them. If you don’t like something then don’t force yourself to eat it. There are many different foods out there that are good for you and give you the proper nutrients without tasting bad. You just have to experiment and try new things to see if you like them or not. There are lots of websites and books out there with healthy recipes; try a few and see what you like. Don’t deprive yourself either. If you are having a real bad sugar craving and want something specific then let yourself have it, just learn to portion better. If you deprive yourself then eventually you end up eating that particular food anyway expect that you end up eating a lot more of it than you should have. Don’t be afraid to reward yourself and if you have a bad day, who cares, you can start again tomorrow. Never let a bad day keep you from your goal; it won’t be easy at first but it will get easier. Anything worth having takes work. You can do it. You just have to stay positive, keep at it and not devastate yourself when you have a bad day. Sorry this is so long I just wanted you to know that I’ve been there before and that it can be done. Good luck.

I think you can be happy that your friend is going to help you. You need to just do the best you can on your budget. Those low calorie and "good for us" foods are more expensive but you can do it.

I too need to lose weight and it is depressing to think about. I am just cutting down on portions and increasing my exercise and I know I will lose my extra weight in no time. I know it is no fun, but we can do it and we will be healthier for it.

Don't concentrate on getting to 110 pounds. Concentrate on getting healthy and feeling good.

it sounds like you might try a medical weight loss program. talk to your doctor about more serious weight loss methods, such as gastric bypass surgery.

although it's nearly impossible to lose weight when you have unsettled emotional issues. Do you think you have an eating disorder?

from http://www.somethingfishy.org/whatarethey/coe.php

Compulsive Overeating
People suffering with Compulsive Overeating have what is characterized as an "addiction" to food, using food and eating as a way to hide from their emotions, to fill a void they feel inside, and to cope with daily stresses and problems in their lives.

People suffering with this Eating Disorder tend to be overweight, are usually aware that their eating habits are abnormal, but find little comfort because of society's tendency to stereotype the "overweight" individual. Words like, "just go on a diet" are as emotionally devastating to a person suffering Compulsive Overeating as "just eat" can be to a person suffering Anorexia. A person suffering as a Compulsive Overeater is at health risk for a heart attack, high blood-pressure and cholesterol, kidney disease and/or failure, arthritis and bone deterioration, and stroke.

Men and Women who are Compulsive Overeaters will sometimes hide behind their physical appearance, using it as a blockade against society (common in survivors of sexual abuse). They feel guilty for not being "good enough," shame for being overweight, and generally have a very low self-esteem... they use food and eating to cope with these feelings, which only leads into the cycle of feeling them ten-fold and trying to find a way to cope again. With a low self esteem and often constant need for love and validation he/she will turn to obsessive episodes of binging and eating as a way to forget the pain and the desire for affection.

It is important to remember that most Eating Disorders, though their signs and symptoms may be different, share a great number of common causes and emotional aspects.

Well when you are that much over weight, you will usually lose weight more rapidly at first. You don't have to buy health foods, just fruits and veggies and whole grain products. You could even buy frozen veggies which are much cheaper. You could also just try frozen meat too, it will fill you up great and is pretty inexpensive. Just try to find veggies and fruits that you love that you could snack on. Also, exercising is esential to any weight loss program. Just workout daily and you will see results soon! Hope I helped!

Well, you've probably heard this a million times but the best way is to eat right & have regular excerice routine.
It will be hard at first & will take some getting used to but it is well worth it in the long run.

&, as you might have already done, consult a doctor.
They might beable to prescribe you pills to boost your metabolism & what not.

anyway, good luck!

Love the pic by the way, i guess that i am aaliyah's number 2 fan, but to answer your question I really have faith in the weight watchers program with exercise. I think that you should consider going to a weight watcher's center.
