The meanest dog is the one that is treated the cruelest. If your reasoning for a dog is for it to be vicious, then you want a dog for the wrong reasons. Any animal subjected to that kind of cruelty will eventually break and be vicious but at the cost of the dog's personality and a life of fear. If you want a good guard dog, find a dog you connect with and can grow attached to, and trust me, if you build a good connection with the dog, it will spend its life rewarding you in love and protection. Don't cause an animal to fear you, love is much more powerful and motivating. So find a good sweet kind dog, any breed, and it will protect you as best it can.
Best of luck
P.S. "mutts" are just as loyal as purebreds. I had a mutt for 16 years and not only was she the sweetest dog alive but she would become protective in a moment if need be. Treat them right and they will do anything out of love for you. I got my dog at a local farm for free as a newborn litter, and the runt at that, sometimes money isn't everything.

Just having a dog is enough to deter most thieves, because basically a dog can give you a warning that someone is there. My advice is to get one that you can enjoy, many breeds come with their own unique personality quirks. Find one that you can live with. Keep in mind that it is proven that male dogs are six times more likely to bite than females. May be great if you a feeling vindictive towards thieves (how often does that happen?)but can be hell if you plan on having company over on a regular basis. You can read up on different species of dog using the internet. I did that to find what species of toy dog, I wanted to get.

If you're wanting a dog that's aggressive enough to injure someone or kill, then you are in for a lot of trouble and you're wanting one for all the wrong reasons. However, if you're wanting a dog for protection and for a guard dog, then you want a German Shepherd. German Shepherds are easily trained, one reason why they are so highly used in law enforcement. Don't get a dog if you just want it to be mean and do harm to people or you'll most likely end up in court if it attacks someone. Remember, when training a dog for protection, they can become highly aggressive and may not always be safe for you. Pitts are good dogs for one reason...when they bite, they don't let go. But any dog trained to be mean can always turn on you. Take the proper precautions and if you really want more information, go to your local pound and talk to the people there.

You want your dog to be a killer? Don't get a dog. You want one for the wrong reasons. Get an alarm system instead. It'll work out cheaper in the long run, and a dog won't be put down and you won't end up with a lawsuit on your hands.

Neopolitan Mastiff? I mean, it would be a deterrent because of size and strength and because dogs in general are protective of their people. I don't mean that Neo's are mean! You don't have to have a "mean" dog. Dogs naturally (unless they are very shy or anxious) will be protective of their people without ever having to be "mean" or "attack trained". In fact, many "trainers" that do this, screw dogs up.
If you get a dog as a pet that is stable and secure in personality, and you just love it, obedience train it, take good care of it's health and spend time with it everyday in walks and play, you will have a pet that is safe to the general public but a threat where a dog should be: When there are intruders or someone or something tries to harm you or your family.

In my opinion, there is no meanest dog. Until someone makes a dog that way, and that could be any breed or mixed breed dog.

The meanest dogs I've ever seen are Chows. They are extremely loyal to their owners and very territorial. They aren't the most imposing but EVERY Chow I've ever tried to pet comes with a warning from the owner. But they are pretty hairy so you'll have lots of doggy hair to clean..........but good looking dogs IMO

Get a gun and get over it. Don't make a dog into a killer. There is enough bad press about dogs today anyway-don't add to the problem.

You want a dog for the wrong reasons. Dogs are friends that need love. You may want to buy a gun.
