At first I thought it was a question of energy efficieny: the church in my hometown is a low, ugly seventies building. But it made me curious, so I've kept an eye out and have since seen dozens of churches without windows. I even saw one where the windows had be bricked in. What's the deal?

Anti-vandalism, structural safety in the event of a disaster, less distraction during the service, lower cost and mind control.

Why do Jehovah's Witness church buildings never have any windows? Or Standard question number three.

On the off chance that this is a serious question there are several reasons most halls do not have windows.

One, most newer halls have been built under the "Quick Build" process. The window installation process is a little time consuming and starts right at the framing stage. Window openings have to be laid out from the start.

Two, windows represents a potential security risk as well as a target for vandalism.

Three windows are expensive to originally install and to repair or replace. One nearby congregation had to replace one window three times due to vandalism. While there was insurance coverage, repeated claims drive rates up.

Also, note that not all halls are windowless. There are areas where building codes require windows.

Some do some don't. Many are built in what is called a "quick build" where they build it in just 3-4 days. Windows then are not included so that the build gets completed on time and brings cost down.

Does it make more since to spend lavishly on one building when you can have two or three modest buildings where people need them? Or when all the money comes from volunteers why drain peoples pockets?

Probably for security in some places , the ones in this rural area all have windows. But yes, it is more energy efficient, but I'm betting that it does tend to make a person that needs natural light have problems. Certainly wouldn't want to spend alot of time where I couldn't see day light.

Of course we have windows! I am assuming that somebody somewhere has seen a kingdom hall without windows? Thats a new one on me but maybe the vandalism is very high there??? There is nothing secretive about Jehovah's Witnesses. Just have a look at the posted meeting times and come along. Of course you will be welcome.

The kingdom hall I attend has massive windows. This question for some silly reason keeps coming up.
As Jehovahs Witnesses,we do not solicit funds as other religions do.Therefore the bulidings we worship in are constructed by tradesmen who are Jehovahs Witnesses. These men and women give of their time and resourses.Whatever is required to continue and spread the preaching work is donated by Jehovah's people. Therefore sometimes it may be cheaper in contruction to leave out windows.
Whatever the reason,it does not matter to us.Our purpose in attending the Kingdom Hall is to worship our God,Jehovah and build up our own spirituality.

Generally, a Kingdom Hall is built without windows only in areas which tend toward hate crimes and vandalism against houses of worship. Sadly, it seems that the questioner is from such an area, and perhaps even more sad that such religious intolerance occurs worldwide.

Perhaps these anti-Witness bigots fail to understand that their vandalism and persecution actually work to help prove that Jehovah's Witnesses are true Christians.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

They're all the same here, too! Even the new building built very recently have no windows. It's a big joke with the non Witnesses in my family. Here's my general rule: if there's no windows, chances are it's a cult and they don't want you seeing their brainwashing process. No lol dude I'm serious....

As mentioned security reasons. Many Local Churches have been broken into recently. As for not wanting people to see what they doing, surely you jest.. The doors are open ALL the time. No Chanting, No passing of the plate for collections, and No rolling in the aisles or shouting at the top of one's voice as if God needs to be screamed at... alas I digress.

buildings without windows, are less likely to have vandalism brought upon them!!! therefore, the insurance is a lot cheaper!!!! also when it comes to maintenance issues!!
also, all the buildings are properly ventilated, and air conditioned,so there is no need!!!

good question, though!!!
