I don't see any reason why any religious person would claim another race to be the devil... a muslim could never call the whites "devils" or the blacks "devils" or w/e... I'm pretty sure Christians can't be called Christians if they're killing other races because they feel supreme...

All religions teach good.

As for Ali, I don't think anyone just gave him a name and told him to convert... he probably did some thinking before he converted..

Mike Tyson converted to Islam in prison as well.

Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world right now.

Casius Clay had a very good boxing career going, making lots of money. However, he was also eligible for the draft and he knew his status as a celebrity would not save him because it did not save Elvis.

He avoid it the first time around by playing stupid and failed the exam. When they revised the exam and he passed, he needed another tactic.

So he filed for conscientious objector status because "Islam is a religion of peace." They did not buy it however as he was still getting into a boxing ring and beating up on other boxers.

Years later (1971) the Supreme Court ruled he should have been given CO status because of his religious beliefs.

As to why he converted in the first place, Christianity was seen as the "white man's faith" and in that era of civil rights, many blacks converted to Islam as they felt that was the faith of their ancestors. (Black Muslims). That reasoning does have some merit as one of the justifications for slavery used by the "good" Christians in the 1800s was that they were bringing the "heathens" to Jesus. It did not concern the Christians that the slaves already had a faith of their own, Islam. Ali's conversion was not so much a conversion to Islam as one of leaving Christianity.

He did not specifically became a Muslim to dodge the draft but he was not above using it to his advantage. He did not actually join one of the major groups of Islam until 1975.

He met with malcolm x who initially supported a group who claimed to be the black Muslims but they had a wrong belief. They thought all whites are devils. When Malcolm x went to Hajj he found out about true Islam. I don't know if muhammad Ali also found out.

For whatever reason within the black community, Christianity in that time was looked upon as being a white man's religion, so in order to "go back to his roots", Mohammad Ali, like many black during the black power movement converted to Islam.

No, and I could really care less... I don't based my beliefs on what others belief. I look at the evidence for any given belief system and evaluate that. In the case of Islam, sorry archeology says "no possible chance".

Ol Doc is right! It was nothing more than a way to get out of going to Vietnam. How many mosques have you seen him in? Have you ever seen him with his prayer rug? NO.
