He seemed OK when I got home about 3 1/2 hrs ago. for that last 45 min or so he has been not acting right. He is an 8 week old Chihuahua. He has had his 1st shot but not yet his 2nd.

His head kid of wobbles when he sits and a few times has fallen over. He seems to walk OK but is a little lethargic. He has went to his water bowl and taken a drink, and he is not vomiting.

He seems like an over medicated person, but to my knowledge he hasn't gotten into anything.

We just got him and since he is not a patient at our local clinic yet and it is after hours, they will not page the Dr.

Any advice?

I am almost positive he is haveing a sugar drop.
Give him honey straight in his mouth.
Put a teaspoon in a pint of water and have him drink it.
make sure he has food either all the time or every 2 hours so the sugar doesn't drop. Take him to the vets tomorrow and ask the vet about nutrical its a vitamin that is excellent for sugar drops you just put a small amount in the mouth when needed.
Any other questions feel free to email me at kathy_decaprio@yahoo.com

I know you said you called your clinic. I am not sure if it is a regular vet or not. But look in the phone book and find an emergency animal hospital and call them to just ask. I have done that before with my dogs and they have been able to help. If he just got his shots maybe he is having a reaction to it? You didn't specify how long ago he received the shot. best of luck to you.

Of course take him to the vet if you can. Ours died due to worm shots. the medicine is sometimes to much for them and the worms too much. They head can wobble like that if he gets water on the brain. They're heads are big to begin with so watch out when you let him drink or he could drown. Sorry to about your puppie.
I would see if the person you got him from will give you the name of their vet and you could try taking him their. \
IF things go wrong and you got him from a breeder or pet shop they will pay for his vet bills up to a point or the amout of the puppy or give you another one. Hope things go good with yours.

Did you explain that this is an emergency????
Call back and tell her that if the dog's not seen by a vet, he may die tonight so tomorrow is too late. If they won't put you through to the vet, ask them for the name and number of a vet who's willing to seen a new patient in emergency condition.

If they won't help, use your phone book and call till you find a local vet who WILL see him tonight, or at worst, first thing in the morning, but preferably tonight.

Okay, I have Chihuahua's. Give him a half of tea spoon of honey or If you have syrup with sugar in it.. His blood sugar may be low do to getting his shots.. If that doesn't work then take him to the Animal Hospital.... Now If he got his shots before you got him, then call the vet and tell them what Is going on and they should be able to tell you what could possibly be wrong....

Can you take him to the vet who gave him his shot? He is a very young pup, and the wobbliness could just be his "baby" legs. I am not familiar with chihuahuas, but in pups I have had, they are wobbly for a while, as they gradually get strength in their legs.
Just keep an eye on him, and if he seems to get worse, take him to a vet, don't worry if he's not a patient, no decent and honest vet would turn him away....
He must be SO tiny!!!! how lovely.......

If he is lethargic and his head is dropping you need to get him to the Vet immediately. If you have an emergency vet near go. If not I would call this vet back and demand they see him. As small as he is he could be dead by morning if there is something wrong or he is dehydrated.

It could be alot of things...

Chihuahua's need to eat constantly...His blood sugar is too high or too low

He could of eaten something that put him in a drug like state

He could of been bitten by a spider, bug or something posionist

He could have a heart or organ failure

You really should take him to a vet

Can you get someone who is already established with this, or any, vet to vouch for you? Or, if necessary, pose as the owner, even if it's just to get him seen? It could be a lot of things, but the hypoglycemia might ba a start if you can't get him to be seen. I'm diabetic, and when I get hypoglycemic, I get dizzy, feel weak, and feel a little panicky.

Take him to the vet, especially if he isn't acting right. He might have eaten something he should not have while you were away. Puppies are like little kids in that regard. Good luck.
