I wanted to help by trying to catch some of these pedofiles on the internet by posing as a young girl( 10 years old) well I did it. and I figured I could just start and find out how to go about telling on him later on, well by the time i got something on the guy, I found out that was I was doing was illegal? I was told that it was called entrapment. Is this true? Is there another way that I could go about getting this guy in trouble? This guy seems like the type of predator to steal a child and keep them captive. It bothers me really bad knowing that I might not be able to do anything about this now, another child might be at risk if I dont do something. What can I do without getting myself in trouble?

It's not actually entrapment but, it is enticing and misrepresentation. go down to your local P.D. or Sheriff's office and ask them what you can do to help. Print off any contact you had with him and take it to them.
When you are dealing with Pedofiles, the issue is that he is communicating with you with the belief that you are 10 years old. whether or not you misrepresented yourself it doesn't matter. Many times, the police will use this tactic to catch pedofiles searching for children by having an adult pose as a child. If the suspect believes they are talking to a child and continues to pursue the "child" it is no longer entrapment. If you up front told this person you were 10 and he continued to pursue the conversation with you, then you should do what it takes, legally, to put this guy behind bars.

Edit: I have to add, Thank you for getting involved and doing something to protect our children. It is because of people like the ones who are telling you not to get involved or to get a hobby that we have so many pedofiles running around free and raping and killing our precious children.

It depends. If he contacted YOU first, and all you were doing was lurking in the chatroom and he made first contact, and brought up the sexual stuff first, then it's NOT entrapment. If YOU went into a chatroom and proclaimed to the world "look at me! I'm a 10 year old innocent girl looking for sex!" That's a form of entrapment, and a lawyer may not be willing to prosecute unless you KNOW THE LAW TO THE LETTER. If everything you've done to this point is legal, then I see no issue.

If you have enough damning information, go to your local police department and see if they'd be willing to take the case. Have copies of your chat logs with you, if possible.

What you are doing is called entrapment. On How to Catch a Predator they wait for the guy to anniciate the conversation then they answer the questions he asks accordingly. So it is not illegal because they are not tempting the predator in any way

Who told you it was entrapment? If law enforcement didn't ,I'd call them and ask them about it. I don't think it is law enforcement does it all the time at the very least you should report him to the FBI. Could you live with it if he hurts a child and you did nothing?

Tell the police everything and let the chips fall where they may. If getting into a little trouble to prevent a molestation, kidnapping, or even a murder is what is necessary then it is a sacrifice worth making. I personally could not live with that on my conscience.
Good luck in whatever decision you make.

Go to www.crimeline.com It will ask you every detail about the person in question. It is totally confidential. Any information you have that can produce an arrest will work. Make sure you got your facts right and you're not putting an innocent man in jail. In other words. make sure's legit.

if you would really like to catch these azzholes. Then go to your local police dept. and get the imformation you need.My guess is that you will not be able to do it because you are not a police officer or in the law abiding business. You just can't help yourself and do that.

but i hopeyou can to be honest.I sure am glad someone is willing to go out and get these sick bastards.

good job.

Yes, it is entrapment if you do it. Why don't you contact your local police and say that just as a joke you posed as a ten year old and give them this guy's alias so that they can nail him?
