If you have the money, you should get a 'murphy bed' that you can 'fold up' for when you are awake. Also get a good 'desk' and a COMFORTABLE chair with 'arms' ... and take a 'good look' at your closet. Can you put in a 'closet system' (you can buy an inexpensive one from Kmart or Walmart) so you won't need a dresser? Do you wear makeup ... put ALL OF THAT in the bathroom if you have your own, or put it into a 'bath basket' if you have to 'share' the bathroom with others ... put the basket right by the door. Get a 'good garbage can' and set that UNDER your desk. You also will want some 'shelves' and you may decide (depending on the size and shape of your room) on those yourself, but THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX ... you may want one 'tall' (6' or taller) bookcase (Office Depot has them for around $50 in several different 'wood colors) or you may want to 'change them around' in which case I'd say you should hang them from 'brackets' on the wall (they brackets are long and thin and you'll need 2-4 and several different 'sizes' of shelves, so you can 'rearrange' them occasionally. If you can't afford a 'murphy' bed then get a good 'single daybed' ... if you will be having a friend spend the night, get a 'folding bed' that can be a 'real bed' when it is out, but folds and sits UNDER your 'daybed' ... and get LOTS of pillows so you can turn your 'bed' into a couch. You'll also want to put some 'art' up ... and you can do that very inexpensively and still have your room look really good if you get 'posters' (movie posters, old advertisements, pictures of 'stars' (celebrities, and also the stars we see in the sky at night), or you can buy 'prints' of 'fine art' and put EVERY PICTURE in the same 'thin frame' ... metal, wood, or paper (if you are artistic, you'll know what I mean). DO NOT 'fill your room with JUNK ... if you have 'stuffed animals' then display them on shelves around the 'top' of your room. If you collect 'figurines' or models or anything 'small' then get a good 'display shelf with frame' to match your picture frames.

The 'big thing' for you to remember is that a smaller room will look 'messy' much faster than a larger room ... so ALWAYS put your clothes away (hang them up, or haul them to the laundry room) and always put your books where they 'belong' when you are done with your work. Start being NEAT now (even before you move) and you will have a 'nicer looking room' and you will also be forming 'good habits' to last you the rest of your life. And, CONGRATULATIONS on your new 'but smaller' room ... I don't know why you are moving, but you have 'good sense' and this experience will be 'good' for you, no matter the 'situation' that is bringing you to it ... now 'go shopping' and have FUN looking at all of the 'good stuff' you'll NEED to fix your room up .. and don't forget to get new bedding, and a nice 'daybed cover' and some really GREAT pillows!

I would have thought that Wales is a great place to sell bespoke furniture. Tourists are a great audience for all things bespoke. Get yourself a website if you haven't already. Also a great portfolio. I think that anything goes, you just need to demomstrate your versitility. Market yourself very well indeed. Good luck. I guess there will always be a market for kitchens, but you may get bored of that.

Christmas Tree Shop in CT sells something called a CD tower. It's decorative and holds lots of CDs - or anything small you'd like to store.

buy a desk from walmart or kmart... the ones that are pretty small and they are really cute too they come in different colors and it has lots of space to put books printer and your computer. buy a small table and 2 chairs at walmart also.

Buy a small futon and a bean bag. a little table for the middle of the livingroom or for the corner so you can place there a pretty lamp or some flowers to make your apartment pretty.

1] platform bed or loft bed - clothes storage or work area [
very few futons are comfy enough to sleep on full time ]
2] then add what's left - desk, or dresser; and a good desk chair. Make sure furniture is made of same or similar material - different ones break up the room, making it appear smaller.
3] get a comfy chair - [ bean bags are comfy for about 5 minutes, and really don't take up less space. ]
4] get dividers for closet shelves - summer hats, totes/ stacks of Ts/stack of sweaters/winter hats, scarves, gloves.
5] get shoe racks for floor of closet - put flip flops, sandals, espadrilles, at one end; closed toe and sneakers in middle;
winter shoes and boots at other end.
6] pick one print and one or two colors from it to decorate.
Use print for bedding, windows, and throw pillows.
7] Use color one for walls, color two for rug.
8] add a mirror on wall across from windows, to reflect light
[ or on other large wall ] Make all mirror or picture frames in same color or material - gold or silver, oak or walnut, same color enamel paint.
9] add all other accessories in color one,or color two. [ lamps, vase or flowerpot, candles, desk or dresser items.

Well Futon's are always a good type of furniture. They double as a couch and bed. That way if you have people over, or even you could sleep on that as well.
