In what ways is our parent/child relationship is to be the same as our relationship with our heavenly Father. Are we to obey our parents like we obey our Heavenly father?

Yes, it is a mirror reflection to how I personally treated my parents and how I treated God. They made me mad, I reacted mad too. I was mad at God for many of my lives issues because of my past going as far back as my childhood. (Built up anger, resentment, etc-you name it.) When I was mad at my parents, I was at the same time mad at God.
Now, I forgave my parents, and loving God and understanding him is so much easiers. Keep in mind I was born and raised a Catholic. This doesn't mean that my parents were perfect and acted like God wants us to. I could go on forever about but, I won't bore you lol... :)

I think you have missed the whole picture, first of all you either have not read the scripture or you do not understand the scripture. Matthew 28:19-20; Go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. The Lord has chosen people for salvation from every tongue, tribe and nation. He specifically states to make disciples first, meaning they have to be born again first. They have to be taught and a person must have understanding in order to be taught. A person void of the Holy Spirit cannot be taught of God by God because they cannot commune with God. A person being baptized is keeping the commandment of God and is making a public declaration their new birth. He then says to teach them to observe all things that He has commanded them, meaning teach them the Word of God. Now I ask you, what baby can do any of this, none! A child can be saved by God when they reach the age at which God decides they are ready, not when man decides. Salvation is all of God. God opens the heart of some kids earlier than others and He can enable them to understand enough of the Gospel to be saved if He so chooses. But He is the only one who can do this and He has and uses the means He chooses. It is the parents responsibility to do their part by making sure that child hears the Word of God and God, through His Spirit will and can open their understanding when He chooses. God is able to and will save a stupid little kid as you call them, teach them, protect them from believing false doctrines taught by men and the traditions of men, grow them up and use them as His vessels of honor while leaving others who think they know and think they understand in ignorance.

God is our creator. Our fathers are not creators and neither are our mothers. God made them the reason for our creation but they are not creators. They took care of us so we need to treat them kindly.
God is our creator and we must obey Him in worship (the ultimate submission and humbleness).

I don't obey my parents. I've let them guide me, but ultimately, it's up to me to live my life how I please. They have never stood in the way of my dreams.

No. You don't pray to your parents. You don't bow to them. You don't expect them to be perfect. You accord them a high level of respect and consideration.
