No political or social issues this time (unless you want to read into it). Here is the scenerio:
A sixteen year old honor student who is both curtious and well behaved asks her mother if she can dye her hair. What should her mother say?

I think her mother should explain that in the long run hair dye can damage her hair but that it is her hair so she should allow her.

Are you sure you want to?
Daughter says yes or no
If yes: well your sixteen, your beautiful and at such a young age its normal for you to experiement, go crazy!

Well not too crazy.. what color does she want?
But anyway, whats the worse that could happen blue hair? Shes 16, shes not supposed to act like a perfect well behaved person all the time, she can have her fun too! Maybe she was fed up of not changing thru all these years and thinks color will help let her decide!

I came home with bright pink hair (but it was temporary) when i was in grade 8... Drove my mom nuts

You could also suggest her temporary hair color, like that she can see if she likes it before doing the big jump
Hope it helped!

I think that a sixteen year old should definitely be allowed to dye their hair. The girls at that stage where she's coming into her own Independence and needs to find her own "self." Plus she's an honor student, it would be a nice reward for a simple good grade life! Be sure to check into the school dress codes, though! Many schools have dress codes specifically for the dying and cutting of hair. I say go with your instincts. If you say, sure my daughter would look great with blond hair, stick with it! and be sure not to flake out of the decision once you tell her one thing!

Hmm. You could go for a red dye....this means you could (at first) go for a semi-permanent dye, or even better, a henna dye. Either of these won't knacker your hair like a permanent dye would, or like bleach would if you were to lighten your hair. Henna actually conditions your hair as it dyes so it may be the best bet at this stage (though I would deffo enlist someones help while doing it, it can be a bit messy. I used to get mine from Lush. Caca Rouge, if i remember rightly) Good luck with it! My hair is poppy red with midnight blue lowlights at the mo...was so BORED of brown hair!

If they want to dye their hair maybe a nice normal haircolor, they should probably say yes.

If they want to dye their hair purple, then proably no.

Kidding.

It mostly depends on the mother's belief on hair dye and the reason the girl wants to dye her hair. There's no what they're "supposed" to say. It's just what the mother thinks.

I would say yes, after i ask if this if what she wants and depending on the color. but i would have her work for it, though. if you do decided to say yes, please do not buy hair die from stores, yes its cheaper, but worse for everyones hair. any die will take out the minerals and such, but if she doesnt like the color make her deal with it for at least a month or two then if you want let her change it. if you have watched the fifth element (movie) the alien red haired chick the dyed her hair so many times just to get it to that color it fell out.

I think people fail to realize how hard it is to maintain healthy hair. Coming from a hair connoisseur (if that even makes since) and from someone who hates chemicals, I suggest you wait until you are a bit older and better able to understand how to care for your hair. Haircolor can break your hair off something serious.

However, if you plan to deep condition it regularly and take proper care of it, why not? Hair color complements anyone.
