Excellent question!
The nature of the relationship with your parents necessarily changes over time. Where once you obeyed your parents, you may now be taking care of them, and making decisions for them. In all of these ways as the relationship changes, you care for them as appropriate. In this way you honor them.

How do you "honor" your parents?
I have my own family under another roof. My duties now are to my wife and children. I honor my mother by helping her when I am in town, remembering her worth and value, taking her out to dinner as a treat. I will always and deeply love my mother and by the way I see her and treat her is how I will honor her.
Since I'm no longer under her roof, God has granted me authority over my own family. I obey her wishes when I visit, treat her like a queen if necessary. When she can no longer live on her own, it is my duty as first born to take care of her in her elder years.
That is how I honor my mother.
Note: My father wants nothing to do with me, so I am honoring his wish. I do, deep down, hopes he changes his mind before his grave.

Definitely. It doesn't say "As children/teenager/adult" but just straight to "Honor thy parents"
Honoring doesn't always mean obeying. You have to obey God rather than your parent. But this statement doesn't justify you for dishonoring your parents.

Honor does not mean obey. These are two different words with totally different meanings. So no. You do not have to obey your parents as an adult. You do have to treat them with honor.

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you. He was obedient to them. The Lord Jesus himself recalled the force of this "commandment of God." The Apostle teaches: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother,' (This is the first commandment with a promise.) 'that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth."’
2197 The fourth commandment opens the second table of the Decalogue. It shows us the order of charity. God has willed that, after him, we should honor our parents to whom we owe life and who have handed on to us the knowledge of God. We are obliged to honor and respect all those whom God, for our good, has vested with his authority.
2198 This commandment is expressed in positive terms of duties to be fulfilled. It introduces the subsequent commandments which are concerned with particular respect for life, marriage, earthly goods, and speech. It constitutes one of the foundations of the social doctrine of the Church.
2199 The fourth commandment is addressed expressly to children in their relationship to their father and mother, because this relationship is the most universal. It likewise concerns the ties of kinship between members of the extended family. It requires honor, affection, and gratitude toward elders and ancestors. Finally, it extends to the duties of pupils to teachers, employees to employers, subordinates to leaders, citizens to their country, and to those who administer or govern it.
This commandment includes and presupposes the duties of parents, instructors, teachers, leaders, magistrates, those who govern, all who exercise authority over others or over a community of persons.

Past problems with my parents made it seem impossible to honor them. But, I am working on doing better and they are too. We all seem happier, so love, respect, and honor are all coming back into our lives.

You should honor your parents through out your whole life. You do not have to be a Christian for that to be applicable.

When we are in JESUS we inherit GOD as OUR FATHER . .. and we inherit MOTHER MARY as OUR MOTHER. .. thus we are all sons of GOD . .. many members but ONE BODY in JESUS CHRIST.
We honor our MOTHER AND FATHER by honoring GOD OUR FATHER and THE BLESSED VIRGIN OUR MOTHER MARY . .. one way to do this is to pray the rosary everyday.
The promised land is HEAVEN . ..
You should honor your mother and father of course, because we are the keepers of our brothers and commanded to LOVE one another. We should do the will of GOD before the will of people of the Earth. Anyone who LOVES mother, father, brother, sister, friend, or anything whatever more than JESUS is not worthy of JESUS CHRIST.
-LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

Honoring your parents includes showing respect - respect the way they brought you up - don't embarrass them.
