Soaking the meat overnight in milk is a great way to get rid of that taste. You can also try this:

MARINADE FOR VENISON

Cover venison with:

1 c. each of dry red wine & water

Add:

6-8 black peppercorns
1 bay leaf
1 sm. sprig rosemary
8-10 whole cloves
1 sliced onion

Marinade meat refrigerated and covered from 1-3 days turning occasionally.

or this:

MARINADE FOR VENISON

1/2 c. soy sauce
2 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 c. pineapple juice
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp. ginger
2 tbsp. cooking oil
2 cut up and crushed garlic cloves
1/2 onion, minced

Pour over meat and add ONLY enough water to cover meat. Refrigerate overnight or 24 hours in sealed bowl. If you are a garlic lover, don't be afraid to add more garlic. Wonderful for steaks and chops for the grill. Good for roasts and stir fry meat, too.

I've also found that smoking the meat is a good way to get rid of the gamey taste. If you use steaks, the meat ends up tasting a lot like beef jerky, it's really good!!

I know you're doing bbq but you have to try this sometime.I didn't like it either till I tried this.

BBQ VENISON

3 lb venison pieces
3 tbsp shortening
2 cups flour
2 tsp salt
pepper
2 cups warm water
8 tbsp's ketchup
4 tbsp's worster sauce
2 tsp's dry mustard
8 tbsp's vinegar
4 tbsp's brown sugar

Cut meat in serving pieces
Melt shortening in fry pan
Place flour, salt, pepper in a plastic bag
Add meat and shake well
Brown meat in shortening and drain off fat
Place in baking dish
Pour water & vinegar over meat and cover with foil
Bake at 325 degrees for 2 hours
Mix remaining ingredients and pour over meat
Bake 1 hour longer

This is truly delicious and no gamey taste at all.

Try marinading it in Red Wine (at least 1 hour but more is better) - then season with salt pepper, garlic and parsley - it is really yum and I have people who "hate" venison who absolutely adore it this way. Good Luck!

go purchase a bottle of Italian salad dressing...any brand, pour over the vension, cover, marinate for a minimum of 30 minutes.....put meat on the grill, dispose of the marinade....when meat is cooked, she might enjoy using a little Ranch dressing instead of catsup or A-1. It would give a familiar taste.....good luck!

not sure on marinades. Try adding salt to meat in ice cooler repeat for several days keeping meat washed and re-iced and re-salted then take it to processing or whatever mine tasted clean this year couldn't taste the wild in it at all

http://internationalhunters.homestead.com/VenisonRecipes.html Lots of ideas here. I like marinading it in A1 Marinades the day before we BBQ them.

I use a mixture of teriyaki sauce and minced onions, or shallots. About 1 to 2hrs in plastic bag or bowl, then grill. Don't overcook.
