My mom's friend found a stray cat that was pregnant, so she adopted it and raised the kittens until they were old enough to give away. She had one kitten left that she needed to find a home for or else it would have to live in a shelter because she couldn't afford another cat, so my mom said we would take it becuase she was going to let me get a cat. Well anyways before that we had gone to a shelter and i had found a cat that i immeditaly fell in love with so we filled out adoption papers for it and now we're waiting for them to call us to let us know if we can adopt him. Well if we can my mom said i would have to give the other cat away to my friend because she doesnt want two cats. Well the thing is i already bonded to the cat that i have to give away if we get the other cat. How can i change my mom's mind about giving away the cat beacuse i can tell she bonded to it too.

Honest 'experienced' answer: Take the ONE cat. If you have more than one kitten they will bond with EACH OTHER and you will be 'odd man out'. One kitty will love you forever. Two kitties will love each other until its time for you to feed them. And my experience has been that male kittens are much more person-friendly.

You haven't adopted the cat from the shelter yet, or even gotten the phone call, right?

If your mother is firm that she can only have one cat in the family, it may not necessarily be that she doesn't want two cats, but rather that she doesn't think she can afford two, or that there isn't room for two.

I'd keep the cat you have and if the shelter calls, explain that you took in a cat needing a home, and that your family can't have two.

The cat in the shelter is in a safe place where he is being taken care of and someone else will adopt him if you don't. The kitten you took in has nowhere else to go and has done nothing to deserve losing its home. I'd keep the kitty you have now. Pets are a lifelong commitment, not "till something better comes along."

I am proud of you for attempting to save two cats' lives!

Maybe you could prove to your mother that you are responsible by taking care of the cat that is already in your home and doing your household chores without being reminded. (If you do no chores around the house, get busy and help out!) Keep your room clean and the litter box scooped. Educate yourself so you will know the proper care of your cat. You could also get a job to pay some of the bills involved with owning a cat. No matter how old you are, you can find a way to earn some money.

What you probably need to do is take a step back and think about whether or not you're capable of taking care of two cats. That's a big commitment you have to be willing to make. Who's to say the two cats will get along, or if your mom has to scratch in order to keep one cat, two cats might be too much of a burden.

Make a mental list of how you're capable of caring for two cats. Focus on how responsible you are with the first cat and how you're ready to handle taking care of another cat. Second, maybe you can take part of the cost of the second cat. For example, giving up part of your allowance, or even getting a part-time job. Be straightforward, a little heart-wrenching, and don't make promises that you can't keep. Most moms will give in eventually. ;)

You'll have a lot less problem with **** getting tore up during the day if there are 2 cats to keep each other company. One cat will get bored and into trouble.

Did you have the cat fixed--no more kitties. Fix the cat and do what you mom said to do ... Find a new owner or take it to the shelter. They will find a good home---OK

if the issue is vet bills. go to spay.org and find a local low-cost clinic in your area-- you can get shots and spay/neuter for like 35$ really cheap. other than that- food and litter wont cost much more for two than it would for one.

hope you can talk her into it.
