It isn't suppose to be one sudden dramatic transformation where all is changed. If you deaplly believe Christ as your savior and you are not lieing to yourself, you will have the desire to want to get away from it. The fact that you have the desire to submit yourself and you try shows the power of the Holy Spirit in your life.
Good Luck and God Bless.

The salvation God provided at the Cross leaves no room for uncertainty. If you've received Jesus as your personal Savior, then the Father wants you to be 100-percent certain you're saved. There's a three-fold test you can apply to your understanding of salvation.
First, ask, "What does the Word of God say?" The Bible's teaching about salvation leaves no room for doubt. Acts 16:31 says it well: "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." That's it. It doesn't tell us to believe, plus something else. It just says, "believe."
Second, ask, "What is the witness of the Spirit?" Romans 8:16 says, "The Spirit Himself testifies that we are children of God." When we receive Jesus as Lord, the Father gives us His Holy Spirit. This ever-present Spirit inside enables us to relate to and communicate with God. Because of the Holy Spirit, we can continually testify that we're saved. Then, we'll be confident even if our feelings about salvation ebb and flow.
The third question you can ask to better understand salvation is, "What's the desire of my heart?" When the Spirit begins to reside within us, we'll experience powerful changes. We'll develop a desire for intimacy with the Lord and become sensitive to His will. This doesn't mean we'll never sin. But it does demonstrate our born-again spirit reaching for God.
You can know that you're saved. If you've made the commitment to trust Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then rejoice today as a child of God.

Tim, it is no small problem you have here. Jesus is indeed Savior and the reason is he is Lord. If you have trouble submitting to him might I suggest it is because you think too much of yourself and not enough of him. I do not say this to be mean but to clarify things to you. You are nothing. You were a wretch a filthy beggar in rags. Jesus comes along and pulls you out of the filth and cleans you up and you do not see the relevance? No one is beyond servitude to the one that saves them.
Remember it does not matter what you think or believe needs clarity. One day EVERY knee shall bow and call him Lord.
Changing our attitude and ideals are never easy. Give it time and you will find yourself growing and seeing how nice it is not to be at the reigns.

I think your problem is understanding what is meant by "accepting Jesus as Savior" and "surrendering your life to Jesus". These two phrases mean the same thing and that is to have the teachings if Jesus (basically the virtues of humility and compassion) be the guiding principle of your life. You can not get an effective answer from this exercise. Better see a religious counselor (priest, pastor, evangelist, etc.) and have a heart-to-heart discussion with this person.
God will not coerce or bribe you to soften your heart. This one you have to do yourself.

A broken heart and a contrite spirit will allow the Spirit of God to work within you. You are experiencing those feelings right now! You want to find the truth and do what your Father in Heaven has asked of you. There is a lot of religious confusion today. There are so many doctrines that contradict each other, it's difficult to know what is right. You feel that God has provided a way to make things clear to you, but you are lost and don't know where to begin. I bring unto you good news! God and his son Jesus Christ have not forgotten about us. They have visited the Earth again in our generation and have restored the plain and precious truths you are looking for! I'm so excited for you and I hope you are feeling the Spirit as you read this. I will pray for you. So, "What has he done to show us the way?". He gave us another testament of Jesus Christ to go hand in hand with the testament we now have called the Bible. It's a history of the people here on the American Continent, kept by God's Prophets in the Americas. It tells of when Jesus visited the Americas shortly after his death and resurrection! These two testaments together clarify and make simple the plain and precious truths you have been looking for! An ancient Prophet named Mormon abridged the record. God brought it forth to a modern day Prophet Joseph Smith, where it was translated and brought forth. It's called "The Book of Mormon - Another testament of Jesus Christ.". It's the sign/proof the Spirit had you waiting for. You can get a free copy! You can go to www.mormon.org to learn more. You can chat online with missionaries who would be happy to answer all your questions. You are a very special person. I know that these things are true. You can also know that these things are true. If you ask of God with real intent he will manifest the truth of these things to you as well! Good luck to you and God speed.

I just want to say that everything is just as it should be with you. I've read all the answers through 35 and feel that everything you need to know in your question is here. The Lord has knocked and you have answered, the rest will come in time according to God's will. You don't need to worry, after all you're better off now than ever- prior to your acceptance of Jesus. "This is the day the Lord has made rejoice and be glad in it". I am thrilled just reading about you . It makes my heart soar thinking of how God has already blessed you so immensely and me too. Much love, wisdom and understanding is my prayer for you always.

If you can look at it like this-Jesus is already in charge of your life-if you think so or not. Just give it time and pray every day that you accept the fact that Jesus only wants the very best for you and He will be there in good times and bad. I'll certainly say a prayer to lessen your stubborn side. God bless you and keep you.

Salavation requires that we believe that his death atoned for our sins and that he was who he said he was. That is what we call "justification" as when God says that "though our sins be as scarlet they will be white as snow". They are covered by Christ's sacrifice that we procure for ourselves by faith.
Now, the part about submitting is what we all "sanctification" the term means that we are "set apart" for God--separated from the world. Sanctification is a process--not a one time act like justification is. Since we are imperfect humans, we can never get it right all of the time. The Apostle Paul even struggled with the flesh, saying that he was warring against his own flesh, trying to bring it into submission and that the things he didn't want to do, often were the very things that he did. We are no different.
We are not perfect until we are "glorified"--given our spiritual bodies when we die or are raptured. Then, and only then, will we be like God in so far as we will finally be truly perfect. Until then, we all struggle but we are given the Holy Spirit to help us in the struggle, so pray and pray some more over the issues that you struggle with and ask for His help.

Jesus is King of kings, Lord of lords, and the Prince of peace. He is the Son of God, the Son of Man, and called Yeshua and Yehoshua, or Joshua. When you accept Jesus you accept all of Jesus.
It takes time though, to come clean of the dirty filth in this world. It takes some time to understand God's word and to unlearn old habits. For some, it is over night. For some, it takes...some time. Let Jesus guide you and put your best foot forward when you begin to walk with Him.
It doesn't mean either that life will become gleeful. Don't forget the hateful nature of your enemy. And the deceitful lies he spreads throughout the world on a daily basis.
The world is being set up for something horrible in the coming years. But something great will to follow. We are in for a bumpy ride. Most people are so caught up in their own uneducated ignorance and self centered arrogance, they don't even see it coming.
Follow the Lord so that even if you are scathed you will come out on top with Him. I'll pray for you.
God bless

Old habits are hard to change.
Receive Jesus as Savior also make you receive Jesus as Lord.
To really make Jesus as Lord is an ongoing process.
For you believer, just read Bible and do things according to it. Every obstacles you face, make you stronger and give you an understanding of what God wants.
I've been a Christian for several years now, but still find difficulties to make Jesus as Lord.
I prefer watching movies than going to fellowship, prefer to sleep than going to church.
But, I pray to God for strength to follow Him, and I go to church and have fellowship.
So take it easy, it's an ongoing process.
