Yes, both the United States and Japan would have faced much larger casualties if we had not dropped the bombs. Hell, even Japan's Minister of Defense, Fumio Kyuma, said it was the right decision.

It was a necessary evil that probably saved hundreds of thousands of lives because it forced the Japanese to surrender without an assault on the home islands.

Based on the fighting on islands surrounding Japan, the battle would have been a bloodbath to say the least. The planners of the assault were expecting at least 1 million causalities on the allied side and expected many Japanese communities to fight to the death including women and children.

The use of nuclear weapons is horrible, but not using them would have been worse.

Kept many men in Germany and allowed the invasion force to be the occupying force.
Estimates of lives saved has been from 500,000 into 8 digit numbers

Yes, otherwise they where instructed to fight with whatever we opens they can find.That meant everybody.It was the
Bushido code.Tojo and some other military leaders would
fight to the death.They weren't going to surrender.I would
have been much bloodier and longer than it was.

Hell NO......The Jap Navy was Sunk, their army was defeated

Their country was in flames.....but we had this notion that the island had to be invaded...OH well

The USA is just as evil and bloody as ANY nation on EARTH
