I never take mine off, except when they made me for an MRI. More than once after seeing it, people have asked me to pray for them or just opened up to me. I will wear it always.
These verses offer a good reason for the symbolism. And that is the reason to wear it, as a symbol of our love for Christ, not as a talisman.
Mathew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
Mathew 10:38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

There is no shame in honoring the Lord Jesus. I do however agree that focusing on a man's death is rather...odd. I understand that many Christians view this as quintessential, but God sent him to live a profound life that all men of all faiths can follow. The Cross is a symbol of the unity, not only his sacrifice. It is the symbol of heaven meeting earth. Christ certainly was a bodhisattva and brought a great message of love. The Cross is that message. The cross is not only his death, it is life. It is your life.
Blessings.

I can't understand why someone would honor someone for dying on a cross or any other way. Truth of the matter is Jesus lived for people to understand a better way. He was persecuted by the establishment as they feared his teachings. He taught love and respect and was criticized for it. To cherish his death is morbid and the product of a sick mind. This is another reason Christians get such a bad rap. This other stuff about it being necessary, god's will, and going to heaven is pretty much superstitious sky fairy junk.

Miss I like the cross. I used to wear a cross when I was younger and I haven't bought a new one. I think it is good that you wear a cross. Don't worry about what the non-Christians think.

Sounds like that person was one of those "Jesus was a great teacher" people. He was a great teacher, but He was also much more than that. He is our Savior and Lord, and there is nothing pathetic about wearing a cross. It commemorates the fact that He allows us to have eternal life by His shed blood.
Jesus taught many wonderful things and performed many miracles, but his most important calling was to free us from sin by hanging on that cross.

As a Christian , I was never in agreement with Jesus on the cross as a symbol . For one , he was ressurected and for two it was neccessary to happen . When my Uncle died , he was a pale shade of the man he used to be . I however remember him for what he was , not the way he died .
If Jesus was hung on a noose , would we walk around wearing the noose symbol with him in it ?

Do you not remember 1 Corinthians 1:18? For the message of the cross is foolishness to the perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

I am not Christian, but I do not think that wearing the cross is either sad or pathetic. It is the symbol of your faith, and in my opinion should be respected as such.

The spiritual model for mankind is a suffering servant in the person of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. Anyone who suffers for spiritual works partake of the honor and glory of the suffering servant; and thus, earns a spirit of deposit of guarantee that when one is resurrected in the kingdom of heaven, that man is born in the spirit and metamorphose into an angel-like man. Similarly, the passion of the cross and the death of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST earned for HIMSELF, the redemption and salvation of all mankind; except the devil and demons incarnating as human beings who are destined for perdition or hell. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD. Pls visit my website-THEGOODNEWSOFTHEKINGDOM@yahoogroups.com
