Does anybody know if the Navy needs people? I was wondering if the navy is like the air force. I mean are they severely overmanned like the air force or are they undermanned like the Army and Marines. The reason I ask is because I am seriously thinking about joining the Navy, but I want to go somewhere where I am needed and can find a good job. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Navy is doing just fine. If you are interested there are tons of great jobs in the Navy and the harder you work and getting your qualifications once you get to your first command the faster you will advance in paygrade. Unlike the AF and Army you can make paygrade fairly quickly because the system is based on you and how hard you study for your advancement exam and what you do to make yourself the best Sailor you can be. If you sit around with your thumb up your thumb up you know where you will veg out like your AF buddies in the same paygrade forever. So if you want to do a good job and you want to have tons of fun and make good money doing it the Navy is the way to go. I love the Navy and it was the best choice I could have made for my life and this was after getting my BS degree from Notre Dame. Go for it you won't be sorry. See the world not the sand of Iraq and the mug of Germany!

It all depends on what you are interested in doing and what your ASVAB score was. There are some fields that are over manned, but there is always room for good people. This is particularly true if you are interested in the intel field and don't have anything in your past that will prevent you from getting a clearance. I'm not a recruiter, but I did spend 6 years active duty as a translator, and I had a great time and got a lot of good experience and made life long friends. Just be sure that you really want to join the military, and the Navy in particular. Speak with a recruiter, but double check everything he/she says. You WILL go to sea ( I knew some people who thought they wouldn't have to...). Again, I had the time of my life, just be sure it's something you want to do.

I was in the Navy and would highly suggest it to anyone. They always need people, but try to find a job you will like, not just one they want filled. The dangerous jobs are usually voluntary and you will always be traveling to cool countries. Also most Navy jobs also train you for work in the civilian world. A recruiter could answer these questions better.

all branches are hurting....we loose men every day in Iraq.
it will depend on you.
Do this...take the ASFAB test first...i don't care with which branch cause they all use the same test.
find out what you are good at or what area you want to go into (like electronics, surveillance, etc)....then after find out what your high scores are...go to each branch and see who offers the best $$$ deal.
remember education is not neg. --- it is already part of the deal that they give a type of GI bill. what you are looking for is the biggest sign-on bonus and re-up bonuses.

oh- ya...do ya get sea sick? What do you think about killing people (children, women) ...these are things to think about as well....if you get sea sick (Navy not for you)...if you can't think of yourself killing people (army not for you)...think this through...I am all for the military...but make it right for you.

good luck

The Navy is overmanned and as such are less likely to grant waivers for anyone. But that doesn't mean they can't use you, either.

All branch's always need people... even the airforce... no one is ever overstaffed in the military, you'd always be needed... just make sure your joining for right reasons... if your even questioning yourself or asking us on here, your not sure, therefore I wouldn't join if I were, if you really wanted to, you'd of just done it... not asked...
