It is my understanding that passports will be a REQUIREMENT for traveling outside the USA after January 2008. Where do I get the application and what information will be needed?

Passports are CURRENTLY required for traveling outside the U.S. There is currently an exception being made for Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbran (for air travel) due to the passport backlog...but....anyway...You may go to the website below to read all information for applying for passports. You may also print out the forms and fill them out to save time when you go to the post office passport office to turn them in. Good idea to go ahead and do this, as it is currently taking more than 4 months to receive your passport. The passport service may tell you it takes 10 to12 weeks, but that is too optomistic!

Go to the US post office. You may want to call in advance though, becuase not all of them do it.

Make sure that you have the "Full" Birth certificate. In some states (like California) they give you a partial Birth Certificate. (Doesn't make sense to me either).

Some travel agents will help do it but there really is no need. The post office will help and answer all of your questions.
