I have other brands I use normally but one day a friend brought over a bottle of Cuervo to make some frozens. Same day I had bought a new blender. I made a batch, tasted it, and threw it out. I thought the blender must've had some rubbery residue in it. Cleaned it, made another batch, same result. Then I tasted a bit of the Cuervo. Blaugh! THAT was the problem.
Jose Cuervo is THE BIGGEST BUYER OF CARAMEL from Hershey's. That vile crap is 51% agave, 49% base grain alcohol and a buttload of caramel color. You can spend less and get a 100% agave Resposado with no artificial colors.
Millions and millions of marketing dollars made Jose Cuervo a household name but that's what you're paying for. Marketing. Do yourself a favor and buy 100% agave, it doesn't need to be a big brand, and you'll be much happier.
If you don't believe me try Cuervo straight next to real tequila. You'd swear it was aged (which its not) in an old truck tire.
Oh, and mudslides are great if you're into milky vomit.
Sweet drinks...you'll learn.

Any Tequila that is pure agave will make an excellent Margarita. I was listening to a wine and dine radio talk show one day and that is what the expert said. Pure agave Tequila is excellent for shots too. Yes, Walmart sells the salt. If you get a Margarita mix, then you can skip the triple sec. Although I drink the traditional Maggie, I use mixes often. Sounds yummy. BTW, never had a mudslide, now you've peaked my interest.

Jose Cuervo makes an excellent Margarita Mix. All you have to do is add Tequila and Ice. I always add a little fresh lime juice too. And the other answerer was right about the Mudslides. Ugh! Pink Panties is good too. It's Apple Smirnoff, Frozen Pink Lemonade, and Whipped Cream.
Pour in the lemonade. Use the lemonade container to measure the vodka, half the container is good for a moderately strong drink. Next add a dollop of whipped cream, don't use the canned kind it doesn't blend well. Add Ice and Blend. It's Delicious!

You can make margaritas with any kind of tequila. Patron is the smoothest. You need triple sec or cointreau, you also need lime juice and sour mix. They sell salt anywhere for is. Sea salt or kosher salt is great. A mudslide is good, but don't ever mix it with a margaritas...it will always end in a bad night!

use tequilla for a margarita. jose cuervo is a good tequilla - good choice. triple sec adds a very distinct flavor. i would put it in, but not too much of it. an original margarita is just tequilla, triple sec, and lime juice.... now they have all the fancy sweetened mixes and stuff. mudslides are awesome!! like chocolaty vanilly things? then you'll love mudslide. when made right it's a little creamy, too. more of a desert drink... not really something to get drunk off of because it's heavy and fills you up. another thing you may want to try is a grasshopper. creme de menthe, creme de cocao, little bit of chocolate syrup on the inside of the glass and some cream (can substitute ice cream.) - next to mudslide, one of my favorites!

Yes use Jose, but you can use any kind of tequila if you want. The triple sec is an important ingredient. I add sprite to my frozen margaritas (makes them fluffier). Wal-mart usually sells the rim salt in the wine section. A mudslide is good, but don't get drunk on them (you will puke nasty barf).

You might as well use a premium brand like Jose...it can only make it better. You don't HAVE to have triple sec, but it is the usual recipe. A bit of an orange liquor is also very good. Don't know about the salt, but Bevmo has flavored and colored salt.....kinda fun. YES..Mudslides are GREAT....especially on a hot day!

Any tequila works, just depends on how much you are willing to spend. Yes, the triple sec needs to be in there, it is less expensive and less sweet than grand marnier.
If you are making Margaritas on the rocks, use good tequila, if making frozen just use whichever you want.
