Hmm. I have a Dyson and it clogs. I called the Dyson hotline and had to took it apart to find and clear the clog. Apparently this happens fairly frequently because they have the instructions down pat. It is more dependable than the standard store brands which are a waste of money IMO.
It's ok for what it is but I loved my old Electrolux (hard to find bags and all) the best.
It's fairly easy to get pet hairs out of flooring but I use wide packing tape (in those hand held gun things) to get pet hairs out of upholstery and pillows. I find that short cat hairs act like little needles and actually sew themselves into the fabric.
Maybe I should just change my upholstery to match the cats coat colors.
:)

I bought a Eureka Boss upright bagless vac and LOVE it. It picks up so much cat hair among other things, I'm very happy with it. It cost us about $150 + tx. If you can afford a Dyson, I'm sure it would work even better. The downside to upright vacs is that they are pretty heavy if you have a lot of stairs to climb while lifting it, and it's hard to vacuum stairs with it so I bought a Eureka hand vac for the stairs.
I'd probably get a canister vac next time since we store our vac downstairs and our only room of carpet is upstairs. Gets kinda heavy.

Dysons are the best I have tried by far! It's uber expensive (I paid 400 for mine) but it's worth every penny!!! I got the one specifically for pets, not sure of the model number though.
People even remark how "cushy" my carpet is when they come over because it "sucks" so good! LOL
Plus, it's purple...purple stuff rocks! :)
Edit:
Of all the vacs. I have owned (LOTS), the Dyson is by far the lightest.
For carpeted stairs and other small spaces use the Pet Hair Magnet. It looks like a squeegee and picks up just about everything!!

The Dyson vacuum is incredible for pet hair. Customers have been very happy with these vacuums. If you do not want to spend a lot of money you can get a refurbished model, which does come with a six month warranty.

I have the purple Dyson, and so does my daughter. I have three cats and foster cats. My daughter has one cat and two Huskies. We agree it is a great vacuum for all surfaces. I have had mine for three years and she has had hers for two with no problems. It is more quiet than most, picks up the hair without scattering it, the cord is long, and requires no bags.

Not sure about a vaccum cleaner, but I swear by my Miracle Brush!!!!! It gets hair off the furniture and bedspread. I'd hate being without it!

Unfortunately-no such thing. Buy the pet hair rollers and let the tape do it's stuff. (They are also good for rolling around areas where you do your hair-if it sheds alot)
