Catholics means universal or are you referring to the Roman Catholic Church. Historically, if the Roman Catholic church, St Paul wrote a BOOK titled THE ROMANS. It is so, as he was addressing the Jews and the Christians at that point in time who became Roman Citizens and were living in Rome.

As far as I know, the word catholic means universal. The Roman Catholic church is called Roman since it originates from Rome.

If you mean nationality some can for some are citizens of Italy. Denominational wise they are members of the Roman Catholic church. That is how they would all be Romans.
