I mean was that the best they could come up with? That'd be like my calling my cat: "Cat", or my dog, "Dog".

Humans' imagination for make-believe has created and named thousands of these larger-than-life parental figures of worship: http://www.godchecker.com, so isn't it a bit ironic that all this creativity has been devoted to a fantasy creature, but then he's given this boring first name? Can anyone think of a better one? 10 points to the winning entry.

Emma Peel: Go Avengers. Gotta love them boots! Not sure about calling him Abba. My Hebrew isn't that rusty that I've forgotten that Abba means father. But the band wasn't very divine to warrant the comparison. Good try though.

Grits: you're getting warmer! Hard to beat a name like Apollo, Dionysus, Poseidon. I mean those are names demanding worship, prostration, and mental servitude! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_gods

I've always wondered that, too. I mean, the greeks and romans at least gave their gods (and goddesse) distinctive names, like Zeus, Apollo, Athena, Hades (yes, Hades is a god, you heathens). And the Vikings' heaven sounds like it would be a whole lot more fun than the christian version (I mean, Valhalla is like gigantic kegger from what I hear).

I like to refer to the christian god as "the man who wasn't there".

a million - Christians did no longer supply God his call. 2 - God's incredibly call is YHWH. there are various pronunciations of this call, yet the two maximum undemanding are Yahweh and Jehovah. 3 - YHWH would not recommend, "God." It means, "i'm." it particularly is a assertion approximately God's Omnipresence and His eternal nature. 4 - the rationalization maximum individuals nonetheless consult with YHWH as God comes from the Jewish custom. They used the notice Elohim, which means "Lord" in decision to YHWH because of the fact they believed that His call grow to be so Holy that they weren't worth to even say it out loud. because of the fact the 1st Christians have been Jews that custom has carried on, even via new languages. ***EDIT*** supply him a clean call? enable's in basic terms supply you a clean call! so some distance "fool" is interior the lead. i'm sorry if that looks impolite, yet i discover your comments very offensive. God has a popularity, and there are rationalization why Christians often do no longer use that call. who're you to grant the Almighty a clean call on your entertainment?

What still surprises me is that "Christians" can not figure out God and Father are titles. I mean I know of the ignorance of the clergy and laziness of the laity, but come on!

Psalms 83:18 clearly shows His personal name to be Jehovah or Yahweh. Though the name translates differently in other languages, what is important regardless of the language is to use that name and not just a title.

The main theme of the Bible is to praise God's NAME. That means especially? Christians are to use that name.

anyone can study of the many names of God some of which are: El Shaddai, Adonai, Elohim, Yavah Shalom, Yavah Siddkonu, Yavah Yira ... and many others which all rolled up together can be IAM.
or Jesus, Yeshua HaMachiach
.

the singular name "God" is indicative of the one and only creator who has an easy to pronounce name - yet does so much beyond what could be thought of or imagined

I believe God might be having sport with us. God told Moses "I am" sends you. No one had trouble believing in God. In fact when Jonah went to Nineveh and told them God was unhappy with them they believed and God spared them. Why does God need a name? When we call out to God he knows we are talking to him. Unlike the Priests of Asherah and Baal when they underwent Elisha's challenge. Names did not bring fire down. God did.

We don't have to give our God a creative name. He is all powerful. Most religions make all kinds of creative descriptions about their god to overcompensate for the lack of his power. We don't have to.

It started with the Jews. God covers all of them, as they heard from different ones. One was loving, one hated, one was a war monger and so on.

How about Dumass?
