I'm 17 yrs old, I'll be 18 in 6 months when I'll be getting the SUV. I want to be able to take it off the road and drive on trails, nothing to hardcore though, and i want something powerful, but it has to get great gas mileage. When i drive up hills I don't like having the slow car. And I don't want 3rd row seating because I want a small SUV, i'm not great with big cars. Year-wise I'm looking at 2003-2006. Suggestions?

The perfect SUV you want is the 2008 Ford Escape. I know it's a 2008 instead of a 2003-2006, but it starts at around $18,000, had great off roading capabilities and power, gets up to 28 mpg, doesn't has 3rd row, and looks stylish. Check it out: http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/Escape/

well, If I can help you my advice for you is a 4 Runner from TOYOTA. Specially the Sport Edition. Why?. Well I have one and is not expensive like many people think. The engine run with regular gasoline ( that is great in my opinion). You can get 20 miles per galon. I drive around the 70 miles per day.The engine is really powerful and suspension is enough strong to tolerate the use you want to give it. Also somthing in my opinion very important. If you chose this SUV you probably will not visit the repair shop for a long long time. my last car in 10 years only went to repair 3 times. Just one thing more. When you will go to dealer ship to make the deal for you new car, you must not shown very enthusiastic. You need to shown to salesman than you have all time the world. Better you don't want to buy nothing, just you are looking around to see how is the market. The salesman probably dosen't have the time you have and them for that if you make him spent a long time trying to sell you a car, probably he will give you a very good deal.

By the way other good car for you could be the Fj Cruiser from Toyota too, My brother in law have one and it is the same quality of may 4 Runner. I run with the same kind of gas, just is a little smaller,Also have a few gadets such compas, altimeter and barometer, I not sure but I think have a gps too. I think is you wanto to go to the mountain or whatever, that gadgets can be helpfull .

Good luck and enjoy the ride.

I have a Nissan X-terra 2006.
Sold my four wheel drive toyota highlander last year. Did not need the 4 wheel in Nevada, ex east coast person, snow.
This is a great car.
I have a two wheel drive with a six speed manual. Can go anywhere and do anything.
Room for four.
California to Las Vegas on the highway can do 100 no problem no shake, no resistance. Only 24 mpg when I keep it in the 80s.
I do love this car and it look great
Easy to clean and good area to store personal items.
Consider this one and take it for a test drive.

I would go with an explorer with the 4.0 V-6. I have had one for 6 years now, great on gas and powerful for a 6 cylinder. There are many other SUV's out there.... have fun shopping.

Look into a chevy trailblazer. Good economy, somewhat off-road capable, and good power.
