My soon to be X husband refuse to go to court to request visitations to see our 4 year old daughter. He is on 80mg of Methadone a day and he has been on this for over two years. I feel that my daughter should not be around him unsupervised. I have to handle this through the court because my husband is very uncooperative and mentally abusive. Is this wrong for me to have him go to court or should I just trust him with our daughter while on this type of medication and at such a high dose?

If you don't feel safe with him, your daughter won't either.
Go to court see if you can get supervised visits. But remember the burden of proof is on you.

My former sis in law was given a shot of methadone to get high and for back pain (at the same time) she overdosed. It was illegal. She had a friend give her the shot. She died about 5 weeks ago. I would not let my child go out the door with him. If he is uncooperative and mentally abusive with you that says it all, doesn't it.? His behaviour will probably get worse... sorry to say. Protect your little angel.

Just because it is legal , does NOT change the fact that he is still an addict .
I would Never let any addict (legal or not , drug or alcohol ) around a child unsupervised .
And a child that young really shouldn't have to experience that anyway .
Why did you have a child by an addict anyway ?
(just curious)

Although chemically unlike morphine or heroin, methadone also acts on the opioid receptors and thus produces many of the same effects.

Go to court, your instincts are telling you not to trust him - listen to them.
